To be annoyed at pet sitter?

I contacted a pet sitter that I have know since last year. He came to our house for something else, not to pet sit our pet, but other animal related.
I contacted him again this week to come and look after our pet days while we are away, as in call in to feed and water etc.
He agreed and told me to fill in the form.
I was relieved as quite short notice.
I then get a text to say he will be sending *John to look after our pet and when can he come and meet him.
I asked who John was as I've never heard of him and he replied it was one of his team.
AIBU to be annoyed? I had no idea this pet sitter had a team and I trusted and have met this particular pet sitter which is why I contacted him again this time.
He did not mention anything about sending another person.
Bearing in mind this person will have keys to the house as well as looking after our pet.

Am I over reacting?

You're overreacting.

Summer is a really busy time, he's taken someone on. That person should be DBS and insured as part of their employment.

When I was dog walkers/ pet litter i would inform regulars and try to pop along introducing new people but I wouldn't think to inform every customer who books in ad hoc.

He will have accepted the booking and then when it comes to planning the week made the most efficient plans based on a lot of factors.

Thank you. Should I ask the pet sitter if this person is DBS and insured? After all, it could literally be anyone.

I would do, I'm picky about who I will hire for my pets. Your sitter should understand this.

Try and see it as a positive, more staff means better availability for you.

Why is he going to risk his business reputation by getting some ne’er do well to pet sit as part of his team.

He has said that you can meet John in advance.

As long as it is an official business it's fine. Ask for proof of insurance and DBS, I do when I get petsitters.

Sounds like your pet sitter has enough work to expand his business which is good. Rather than turn people away, he is employing people to help him.

John should be DBS checked. If he is employed then he will be covered by the pet sitters PLI, if he is self employed, then he needs his own PLI.

You are within your rights to check this, for your own insurance purposes.

OK, thank you to everyone. I've given my head a wobble!
Apparently, this is normal thing for pet sitters to do in busy periods, as you say.
I really didn't know.
Also, I found out this pet sitter has been in the business since 2015 which speaks for itself.
