Politicians pawing each other

I know they are trying to show how “matey” they are and how “close” the nations are. But this new tendency for politicians to touch each other is getting ridiculous. To be honest they should go the whole hog and just snog.
AIBU? Do images like this make you embarrassed or do you think “yes amazing leadership”??

It’s embarrassing but then, he’s embarrassing playing at being a statesman again, when in actual fact, it’s a weak and ineffective deal.

SummerEve · 11/07/2025 07:27

I personally would rather they built relationships than deepened divisions.

MoFadaCromulent · 11/07/2025 07:36

Go on then

He can’t get his own party in order, he isn’t going to make the French do anything that is not in their best interest.

Alongthetowpath · 11/07/2025 07:41

Ha ha, I thought Starmer and Macron looked like they were arm wrestling earlier this week!

ObtuseMoose · 11/07/2025 07:43

It's awkward but I'm not sure how a hand on an arm means they should snog.

That picture makes them look as though they are clinging on to each for dear life because they are petrified.
So it obviously doesn't inspire confidence in them actually being in charge of any situation.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/07/2025 08:24

Oh for god’s sake.

What on earth is someone going to find to criticise Starmer for next?

I know this is aimed at both him and Macron - and other world leaders - but such a non issue.

Concentrate on the real danger of us being taken over by a bunch of grifting incompetents, who can’t run a council meeting, pretty much daily seem to have members getting into trouble for some sort of harassment or other crime, lied through their teeth to be able to massively disadvantage the people of this country through Brexit and are knee deep in russian money. That’s Reform if you weren’t sure.

We’re at an absolute critical point of danger that we could go where the US has gone, and have far less chance of clawing ourselves back as a nation if it happens. So please do worry about politicians making physical contact. I’m sure that’s the issue.

Macron has populists at his heels too - every country does. It’s a terrifying time and people are so blind.

TwinTantrums · 11/07/2025 08:27

I don’t particularly care.

TheWisePlumDuck · 11/07/2025 08:27

I was half expecting Starmer to bend over at any moment.

But then I suppose his 'One in one out' 50 only was him taking one for the team.

TheWisePlumDuck · 11/07/2025 08:30

I think you should stop using the US as an example of what could happen if reform get in, that is if you want to scare people away from it.

I dont like Trump BUT be wary here. Most people are concerned about immigration, and on that front, Trump absolutely nailed it. Illegal immigration has plummeted and sex criminals are being deported at rate never seen before.

TheNuthatch · 11/07/2025 08:35

I agree OP. It was cringe worthy to watch.

Absolutely. I am very disappointed in the Labour Government I voted for, but the thought of the country being run by a group of racist, right-wing lazy grifters is fucking terrifying.

They have no record of competence in any elected roles and they have recently appointed a 19 year old who doesn't believe in depression to be the cabinet member for Leicestershire County Council Children and Family Services and a 22 year old as Deputy Leader of the Council who is a fan of Andrew Tate.

mumda · 11/07/2025 08:52

I'm happy to criticise him for his policy.
I don't care if he snogs Macron. He's done a rubbish deal. He spends too much tax payers money on nonsense with no benefit to the people who pay for it.

This, all day every day. Couldn’t even cross my mind to be concerned about a few pats on the back, talk about a non-issue.

🤣

usniniasen · 11/07/2025 09:14

Haha, instead of putting on this awkward "touching show", it's better to be direct, 😂 AIBU? I think this picture is a bit uncomfortable. It's far from "leadership" and more like a political reality show. What do you think? But they will also use jammermfg.com for private talks, after all, they are afraid of being discovered by others.

pinotnow · 11/07/2025 09:15

It's great to see him forging closer ties and productive relationships with our closest allies. The hand/arm gripping/double-handed handshakes are a vaguely amusing and ultimately inconsequential manifestation of that.

Maybe you’re right. Perhaps I find it hard to imagine people being cheered by the idea of concentration camps.
