Which is when we went into lockdown. Watching the Rob Rinder/Ruth Goodman programme on channel 5. The parallels are so similar even down to the 1 hours exercise

It’s probably not that strange given viruses have seasonal variations and incubation times etc.

Interesting program wasn’t it.

Whaaat?

But you're choosing to see a coincidence by mixing and matching statistics. The first covid deaths weren't announced in 23rd March. You can find any link if you try hard enough.

What was the programme called? I would like to watch it on catch up.

Looking for endless patterns and conspiracies has been a thing more and more people are (mindlessly) doing since the pandemic, that’s for sure.

CatRescueNeeded · 11/07/2025 05:40

at the beginning of the programme they said the first death (patient zero) was Christmas Eve

It was on at 9pm on Channel 5 and called "The Great Plague with Rob Rinder and Ruth Goodman". I started watching it but had to go to bed so recorded it. I'm interested to hear what happened to the grave digger, the wealthy merchant and the priest.

Me too - recorded it. We were far to worn out by the heat to stay up & watch it even though it was very interesting. I think Ruth Goodman is great.

Definitely. The pandemic combined with deliberate policy to try and make the population more scared has been awful for collective mental health.

On top of the points others have already made, the change from the julian to the gregorian calendar didn’t take place until the late 16th century, so dates are not equivalent when comparing before that.

It was really interesting. Enjoyed watching it. Had previously heard of houses being locked up but since lock down can start getting a glimpse of how horrendous that must have been.

notatinydancer · 11/07/2025 11:50

We were always allowed more than an hours exercise. https://archive.reading.ac.uk/news-events/2020/May/pr841058.html
