Incorrect diagnosis on record - Upset

I have recently accessed my NHS app and I’m upset to see an incorrect diagnosis on there which has affected the way I have received subsequent treatment.

About a year ago I went to A&E with upper abdominal pain and what felt at the time as tightening chest and back pain. They did some basic checks, blood pressure, ECG and sent me on my way.

A few months later I went to a&e again, this time with excruciating abdominal pain. They were again going to send me on my way this time with a diagnosis of urine infection . I had to persist they do further checks and turns out I had a severe gallbladder infection and gallstones. One question by the doctor during diagnoses however puzzled me, how was my anxiety?

Turns out the doctor from my original visit had written to the GP that I presented to A&E with anxiety!? This was unknown to me, he did not say this at the time. I was clearly having an episode of gallbladder issues although I didn’t know it at the time. I feel my actual diagnosis the second time took much longer and I was having issues being taken seriously due to apparently having anxiety plastered on my health record.

AIBU to ask my GP to remove this? I’m upset at both being misdiagnosed but also to not be told about it, can they just take the opinion of one doctor who saw me for a maximum of five minutes.

I am not sure, but I am following with interest as I had an issue with my son's records.

He had self harmed (he did it a lot at one point) and this time it was above his wrist on the outside of his arm. I couldn't stop it bleeding so it was a trip to A&E. He was very clear at the time to the staff who attended him that it was "just" self harm, a way to relieve stress, and no more. But It says in his notes he attempted suicide. I didn't see this for a few years and I contacted the surgery and asked them to remove it but they said they couldn't as that was the report from the hospital. So he is stuck with attempted suicide on his notes.

I was wondering this about ibs as it’s still a main factor on my notes. I didn’t have ibs - it was a birth injury.

I have this, both gallbladder and the anxiety misdiagnosis. It’s led to further issues of misdiagnosis down the line as it was put down to anxiety again, I haven’t been able to get it removed though (or the random diabetes diagnosis that’s on my record, despite not having diabetes, bizarre!)

The gp can't remove any medical records, they were sent a copy from a&e who misdiagnosed you, it's not the gp. You can get a copy of your records then write to the director of emergency medicine at the hospital.,they can review your notes, and see what tests were done.id make a complaint to the hospital and ask for an investigation.

I' be upset about being misdiagnosed as well tbh

Female complaints are still treated as madness, only the word is now 'anxiety' 😡

Glad you've got the right diagnosis now xx
