It's my 11 year olds birthday and I have no idea what to do for it. She has had a hard year and has experienced some bullying so I really want to get this right. Advice needed from all you wise mumsnetters? Thanks in advance

I took my 11 year old neice to Alton Towers for her birthday with a couple of pals. It was expensive but worth it. She loved it.

TigerRag · 10/07/2025 14:49

What does she like?

SemperIdem · 10/07/2025 14:52

What sort of thing is she into?

Caramelty · 10/07/2025 14:59

have you asked her? She might have a wishlist!

My dd has enjoyed taking friends to Nando’s, going to an arcade (pay for an hour and then you can do all the games there ) and a virtual reality gaming place, also just a straightforward sleepover

As gifts she has loved getting new gear for her sports; an iPad pencil and subscription to a cool drawing app; fairy lights and a big beanbag for her room; a day out with me in the city shopping and trying on in clothes and having lunch together.

She always loves a family dinner and cake- so don’t forget the traditional bits too!

I took my dd to a local pottery place with a
few friends. We then went home for pizza hung about. I did also look at crazy golf etc but she wasn’t keen on those.

We get free public bbq’s in parks and playgrounds here so when dd was that age, we had a bbq breakfast in our local big playground. It was a hit! How’s, I have no memory at all of what her gifts were.

So, in your case, a sleepover with a bbq breakfast would be my suggestion. I cooked sausages at home first and then heated through, bacon just needs heating through, we put slices of bread to toast on the bbq plate and then whoever wanted eggs got them. Fruit cut up and cake. It was the easiest thing ever.

Is she turning 11 or 11 turning 12?
What sort of thing is she into or would enjoy?

Experiences:
Theatre tickets
Pamper session
Shopping trip and afternoon tea
An outdoor activity eg. Go Ape, surfing class, paddleboarding etc
Tickets to a sports match

Gifts:
Clothes
Trainers
Sliders
Headphones
Decorative lights or lava lamp for her bedroom
Books
Stationery
Jewellery
Sports / hobby kit

Are you going away anywhere over the summer that she might need things for? I once did a gift bag of things like a waterproof phone case, pool inflatable, beach towel, mask & snorkel for kids going on their first holiday to the med.

Hi everyone thanks so much for all the replies, some brilliant ideas! She's 10 turning 11 and my oldest and she is still very childish so I wanted help in deciding the most age appropriate party theme.
She loves the idea of a sleepover so am going to do that with face masks, nail varnish etc. Thanks to u all!!
Loved the Alton Towers idea too haven't been in ages, unfortunately it's just a bit far away for us.

Gift wise my kids want a phone when they turn 11.
I have previously done experiences (feeding a zoo animal, keeper for a day) day trips to a theme park, mini break to Haven.

In terms of a party, escape rooms are quite popular with that age group.

Kelli92 · 11/07/2025 22:24

Escape room is a good idea too are they able to work the clues out ok?

I wouldn't do am escape room unless it is pitched at that age group. I did one and it's possible I would still be trapped in there if the other adults hadnt been good at them. They are tricky and some kids may even be scared.

Moonnstars · 12/07/2025 14:32

Escape rooms were really popular with the year 6 students here. I guess check the room you book, some are easier than others. Also you aren't really locked in so it is worth mentioning that (some people get funny thinking that you are really trapped, but if you explained it to the person running it they will make it really clear that they can leave if they want). The ones near me are also good as if you are stuck you can just say we need a clue and they will help. The other one the lady running it often offers help before needed.
