Would you go?

I had a recent brain mri via a private medical company. A private neurologist at another local clinic referred me to have this done. The private medical have done their report based on the findings and sent it to my neurologist. Unfortunately she has went on holiday so has not seen the results.

After the mri, I was sent 652 images of my brain. Due to all my symptoms and waiting, I have scanned the images through various AI and every one of them is stating a large mass which is pushing on my brainstem and other structures. The 4th ventricle has also become enlarged. There are other abnormalities but seem less serious.

I am due to get on a plane in 3 days time and now worrying about the increase in pressure from the flight.

Aibu to ask what would you do?

No I wouldn't go.

pizzaHeart · 09/07/2025 23:04

Can you go at least to your GP to discuss this?
Also have you notified the insurance company about this investigation? I think you should and maybe they will advise about cancelling/ changing options.
And I wouldn’t go.

Definitely do not go. Ring GP and explain what has happened. He/she may wish to see the images and decide whether action can wait till your consultant is back from holiday.

I don't have any formal diagnosis so what can I tell the insurance company. They need a name of a condition.

I am gutted if I cannot go. At nearly 50 this is my first ever holiday with a new partner. I know I'm being silly but this was a trip of a lifetime.

I will go and try and see a GP but even that will be difficult. Will they think im crazy for using AI.

I’m so sorry. That’s incredibly disappointing about your holiday. I hope you can rebook in the near future x

Were you having symptoms that led to the scan? And had you let your travel insurance know you had these symptoms and were awaiting investigations?

No, they need to know about investigations even if there's no diagnosis yet. If you don't tell them and anything happens, they'll reject any claim because of not telling them.

I would speak to my GP in the absence of the neurologist, but they probably can't tell you much if they haven't been involved.

I think that unfortunately, it's likely you will have to cancel.

So just got a copy of the report done by the medical company. Read by a radiologist not a neurologist. Says there is nothing wrong with any image. Yet multiple AI are picking out the same issues on these images. Can they all be wrong?

I have a long list of symptoms including losing the feeling in my face and my neurologist has found hyperflexia in several places.

No clue what to think.

My partner is a neuroscientist and hasworked with lots of brain images. He says there are no reliable AI interpretations of brain images at present, brains are particularly complicated with a vast range of normal. Additionally there are things that can look like an anomaly on a scan but are common occurrences with little impact on day to day life, which is why they need trained human interpretation rather than AI
