Aibu to be nervous for an AI future?

With jobs being taken, self driving cars, AI admin tech, ai teaching, etc ...what are we humans meant to do to make a living?

My partner and I do "white collar" jobs and it feels like they could be taken by AI without much notice. How do I upskill?
What does it mean Societally if tons of people are out of work and most things are done by robots.
Am I alone in that I don't really want my kids growing up with minimal human interactions?

Anyone got any thoughts or article/blog links/videos for helping me envision my family's future and how to financially survive?.

(Not ai or a bot, just a concerned parent and barely keeping heads above water late 30 year old trying to figure out what the next 30 years of work look like so we can have the best chance of surviving (ideally thriving) and giving the kids the best shot at doing better than we have. )

Yabu- it'll all be fine, (give reasons)
Yabu- ai everything is quite a scary prospect

there are loads of examples throughout history of people being worried that the next new technology is going to cause mass job losses. People adapt AI doesn’t think for itself, it has no logic and so will never take over for problem solving and creativity.

it is only as good as the information put into it and will still need human hands to guide it.

I like to think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Johnny depp) where the dad was sacked from putting lids on toothpaste but then got a job fixing the machine that now does it.

Hi Op.

I agree. So much so that I was actually looking at degree’s today through the open university wondering which one would be something that AI wouldn’t have much use for.

I am currently in finance and very aware that it could be done via AI at some point.

You will probably get a lot of people on here saying not to worry as it will seem like ages away but I do think life will look very different in the next 5/10 years if not sooner.

However I think most of us have transferrable skills and we will always find something x

Watch this fascinating talk from the Centre for Humane Technology about some of the likely impacts and how we’re still dealing with the negative impacts of the fast introduction of social media:

It’s very much here already for a lot of things. How life looks for society in a couple of years is anyones guess though. The AI part of X (Twitter) called Grok had a blip yesterday if you do a Google.

I think you’re right to be worried, I think most people see this as a ‘next step’ in technology but actually it’s something else. The current AI we have isn’t actually true AI but it’s very early days.
Once AI is programmed to improve itself, it will do so rapidly, over and over.

I agree with you. The next few years AI development look scary to me. It could be a great thing if it leads to a world of abundance for all, but with the bad actors in the world I don't think it will end well. Which is so so sad for humanity and the world 😭
