Putting a chicken in the oven before doing the school run.

I set off at 2.50, cycle to school am home by 3.15 at the latest.

Woman at school said "what if the house burns down?" I said I would be rather out of the house if the house was burning down.

She also won't put on washing machine or dishwasher while out in case the house floods. Now this has happened to me 3 times, but being in or out made no difference IME.

If I put the chicken in when I get home it wouldn't cook in time as I work from home and my first pupil would arrive as I was still chewing.

Silly woman. I do it.

What if what if what if

What if aliens land?

What if Durty Peedos smell the chicken and deduce that it's for children and come running, slavering, into the house to hide under the bed?

What if all the chickens of the world unite against you, their cousin killing foe, and fill your house with eggs?

What if Fantasic Mr Fox burrows a hole directly into your kitchen, steals the chicken, burns his paws on it and with his lack of balanced caused by losing his tail, falls backwards into the hole he burrowed, breaks his neck, and Mrs Fox and all the little foxes starve to death?

Or - and I know this may sound a little outlandish - what if it is cooked for about half past five and you get a really nice dinner?

jellyforbrains · 26/05/2008 10:27

I don't do it with my shit current oven as the seal is dodgy and sets off the smoke alarm nearly every time i cook - don't want to risk angry neighbours and fire engine on my return. Am having a lovely new oven next week and will definitely leave it on when I am out 9excited emoticon).

Likewise with washing machine etc.

If it was ready at 5.30 I wouldn't be able to eat it as I would be teaching.

LOL!

You are being v organised & efficient. The other woman sounds unbelievably neurotic.

Crikey, I often have a full quota of machines (washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven) on when I go out. How would I have a life otherwise????????

VictorianSqualor · 26/05/2008 14:41

I leave bolognese sauce on the hob (it's electric) to simmer when I go out.

When I use the slow cooker I worry all day but the house hasn't burned down yet!
