To be panicking re: possible asbestos

My husband arranged for someone to come and line and paint two rooms in our house this week. The house is a 1950s build. My grandparents lived there but I don't know if the wall decor etc was theirs or the people who lived there beforehand.

As the rooms have textured paper etc he told the painters he would remove this in preparation for them coming. He had started to remove the wallpaper which has textured paper - I don't think is an issue as one wall was was previously done due to an extension (although I have now read that it can be in wallpaper too). However he started removing the ceiling "paper" but I don't think it was wallpaper - not sure what it is. I don't think even even got a square metre off yet, but he has now said someone in his work said not to touch anymore of it as could have asbestos in it. I'm now panicking as its now been disturbed, now have part of the ceiling coating missing and these painters are due this week.

I am 9 months pregnant so not that I already needed this stress but I am concerned about the health of not only my husband but also me and the baby (and dog.) I haven't been in the room since he started but have read about it existing in the air. Dog has also been in as thats how he gets into the garden - could particles be on his fur?

AIBU to be worried about this or is it likely to be fine? I know there's no safe amount of asbestos. It's just a whole mess and I feel like crying although accept I could be overreacting.

Highly unlikely that this exposure is going to cause problems, but there is nothing you could do about that anyway. The important thing now is to get it tested md if it is asbestos have it professionally removed.

Your baby will be absolutely fine, because there is no way asbestos fibres could have entered their lungs.

The kind of asbestos used in artex is not the most dangerous kind, plenty of houses have it and people probably drill into it all the time. Get it tested, and removed if it’s there.
I’m not dismissing the dangers, we’re actually having our asbestos artex removed next week because I don’t want it in the house. But any exposure you have had is likely to be very very minimal.
