Friend offended by my opinion

Friend is seeing someone who isn't her 'usual' type. Met him once. But I bumped into him when we went to a local bar in our hometown and he looked awful, and I did say to her 'does it not bother you that he goes out to a nice bar in oversized cargos and an adidas zip up jumper and doesn't make an effort for you and I think she found it quite offensive, but he looked an absolute state...

AIBU?

Depends how good friends you are. Me and some of my friends can be pretty robust with each other.

Moonlightdust · 07/07/2025 18:34

How nasty

TheBig50 · 07/07/2025 18:35

Did you expect her to ditch him and thank you for your infinite wisdom on all things shallow?

Are you single? Is your friend moving on without you? Has she found someone she prefers to spend her time with?

Picklechicken · 07/07/2025 18:51

Unless she’s specifically asked your opinion why would you say that? 🤦🏻‍♀️

LlynTegid · 07/07/2025 18:52

Probably honest but no need to say that.

K0OLA1D · 07/07/2025 18:54

Shitty thing to say.

I'd be questioning my friendship if I was your friend.

Oakcupboard · 07/07/2025 18:58

You don’t have to say aloud every thought that pops into your head. Your opinion wasn’t asked for

itsgettingweird · 07/07/2025 18:59

Why does what he wears have any impact?

If he was rude to her or abusing her then yes say something.

Not everyone is shallow and judges people on their appearance

Outofthemoonlight · 07/07/2025 19:01

Do you know the difference between thinking something and saying it out loud - and in which situations one or the other is appropriate…

OP clearly doesn't!

OohhhhhBigStretch · 07/07/2025 19:08

If she asked you for an opinion on his dress sense, I think you were being quite harsh and a tad rude. But if it was unsolicited advice, I’m not surprised she’s pissed as you.

AutumnLeaves91 · 07/07/2025 19:09

That’s so tacky of you

treesandsun · 07/07/2025 19:46

She was offended by your rude unsolicited opinion No shit Why are you surprised?
