We will only have one week for our honeymoon, in early April next year. IABU to fly to Indonesia (from London) for this very short period?

I think we are on the verge of committing to Marrakech! Accepting advice and hotel tips 😊

The Les Jardins De La Medina is lovely

I think Marrakech would be a lovely choice. We’ve been to Morocco several times and I would go back in a heartbeat. As it’s your honeymoon, I would book La Mamounia - it’s a wonderful hotel. You could possibly think of spending a couple of days at the coast at Essaouira or Sidi Kaouiki, or you could go right into the desert - there are a couple of really romantic hotels which are miles from anywhere and great for stargazing.

Bali isn’t just one resort. A bit like saying don’t go to Spain as Benidorm is awful.

Have you been then?

Barbados is lovely. We went in December for 10 days, travel isn’t too bad with direct flight.

Depends on what you want out of your trip, but I'd be tempted to flip and stay in Essaouira, and visit Marrakech. Essaouira is amazing, and far more laid back than Marrakech- you can wander around the medina by yourself very easily. Lovely restaurants, spas, lot of culture. Just be prepared for wind! It will be pleasant but not hot at that time though?

I was looking at La Mamounia as an option! I'm a bit of a film nerd and really love The Man Who Knew Too Much, which was apparently filmed there!

There do seem to be a lot of lovely options. We are trying to balance the desire to be able to fully relax against our interest in seeing and doing new things. Not sure whether we want to do two locations or only one!

My fiancé was quite keen on a hot trip but I think he could be swayed by pleasant weather and shorter flight time / easier flight. It seems like most of the very luxurious warm places we could consider in the alternative involve a layover, which increases flight time and risk of flight disruptions.

Have you been then?

Yes. Climbed Mount Batur at sunrise, cycled the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, went on a cooking course in an out reach project, shopped in local markets and stayed in Ubud.

For some reason I have never felt interested in the Caribbean. It seems like maybe I am missing out?

@OrangeCrushes Have a look at Sahara Sky in Zagora. I’ve always thought it looks really magical, and it’s got a proper observatory. Driving is really easy in Morocco, so you could easily drive there or to the coast from Marrakech.

Curious to know what you decided, OP?

Environmental vandalism, I’m afraid.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 16/07/2025 20:29

How about Kenya? 9 hour flight no jet lag…

Sandrine1982 · 16/07/2025 20:34

What about Mexico? Or Costa Rica? I think you can find direct flights. Costa Rica is amazing!!! (Or was, 20 years ago, when I visited....)

nam3c4ang3 · 16/07/2025 20:34

there are some very lovely places in Bali! I used to live in the continent and have to Bali a fair few times. It is a long way to travel for 1 week tho OP.

Sandrine1982 · 16/07/2025 20:36

It's rainy season in Kenya at that time...
