This happened a few years ago and I’ve never got my head round it.
We were booked to view a three bed semi in a nice suburb of a major city. We met the agent outside and after intros, she rang the bell, I think to check no one was home. No answer, so she went to unlock the door but couldn’t turn the key as there was a key in the back.
We rang the bell again but still no answer. The agent was very apologetic and we were just about to go when the door was answered by a woman in a dressing gown. She had wet hair, she’d been in the shower, and apologised and said she was just leaving. The agent didn’t seem to know who she was. She then disappeared upstairs while we viewed the downstairs with the agent.
The whole house had an odd feeling to it, like it wasn’t lived in at all. There were two armchairs and a TV in the living room but no personal items - no ornaments, photos, pictures. Same with the kitchen - no odds and ends on the side.
About five minutes later the woman came back downstairs, hair still wet but dressed and left the house. She got into a car over the road (it had an empty drive) and drove off.
The upstairs was even odder. The whole house had cheap laminate flooring, even on the stairs. The stairs also had those metal runners on the edge of the step, the kind of thing you see in offices or workplaces. Upstairs there were double beds with bedding (one bed unmade) but nothing else - no clothes lying around, or personal items. The bathroom had a single bottle of shampoo and a shower gel.
We didn’t offer but the house just felt weird. At first I thought maybe they’d already moved out and popped back occasionally but the house didn’t have a “just moved out” vibe either.
Anyone got any ideas?
