Please tell me whether you'd go for solid or normal tier on tier shutters on a sash window like this?

Really can't decide

Solid shutters only cost a tiny bit more

I love the solid shutters, but want to move at some point and think that regular shutters with louvres would be appreciated more

Either would be tier on tier with 4 sections, 2 each side

Tia

Yabu - typical shutters with louvres
Yanbu - solid shutters

For which room?

I prefer solid especially in the bedroom for keep it dark.

Louvre may provide privacy on a busy road if close to the pavement.

In the SE I’m thinking with the heatwaves and rising bills solid is better to keep house cool in summer and warmer in winter.

One for the living room and one for the master bedroom

Both north east facing and small

I'm going for a very dark wood

I'm in london

I also want something that won't become dated

Louvre shutters. They’ve been ‘in’ for decades. I have them. I like them as I can open them for more light if needed but they still provide privacy.

Louvre are definitely more practical but something in me is saying g 'get solid ones' 😭

I'm going for dark wood as well, so think that i will need to preserve as much light as possible

We have original Victorian shutters in the bedroom, great for cutting out light and keeping cool in summer & warm in winter.

I had louvred shutters fitted on lower half only of bay window in living room for privacy and some control of light levels. Have curtains too.

Solid dark shutters might be a bit dark, but maybe that's what you're after!

Solid!

youreactinglikeafunmum · 20/11/2025 12:03

Girls

I went for tier on tier with slats 😭

I wasnt brave enough to go for solid

I have a question though: they feel very light? Like not at all heavy

Has anyone bought from shuttersup? Are they solid wood, as these arent remotely heavy like I wouldve expected 🤔
