Hate my haircut, not sure what to do?

It was a slightly longer one-length bob. At the salon I told the hairdresser not to cut anything off the length as I was trying to grow it out, but she said 'I'll just cut a bit off so it's fresh'. That's my fault because at that point I should've been firm and said no, but she cut an inch off all over.

It's very blunt all over, and unless I straighten it it flicks out just like the Miss Hooley character, it looks awful.

It was meant to have choppy layers through the top to give it more volume and a fringe, but it looks almost mullet-like, and looks horrendous with the flicks.

I can just about tie it up but the nape hair is too short so it just looks weird. There isn't really anything I can do with it and I don't think I'm ugly, but I just don't think my face is pretty enough to pull it off.
I hate it but it's a chin length bob, there's not really much I can do. Maybe I could try an asymmetrical pixie or something but again I don't have the confidence, and looking around not all but many women have at least shoulder length hair.

Feel miserable tbh, it'll take me a year I reckon to get to shoulder length.

If you could let us know roughly where you live, without it being too outing, maybe one of us could guide you towards a really good stylist that could do a revision?

I've had disaster haircuts in the past that have been sorted by somebody who really knew what they were doing and the length they took off was almost unnoticeable.

lemonraspberry · 05/07/2025 22:50

I had a disaster haircut once- long story but it was nothing what I asked for. See if you can let it grow put a bit more - even another 3-4 weeks then get a really good hairdresser to sort it out.

Here is the picture so you can see how much it flicks out.

I'm sorry OP but I absolutely love this cut and flick. It's gorgeous. I had a bob cut and i was hoping for this natural style to just happen but I looked like a mushroom, or a foreskin. Awful. This is gorgeous I would learn to live with it while it grows.
Edit to say I've just seen the front facing picture too. Could you use a salt spray and tease it a bit to make it more messy? Think that could definitely work x

Squirrelsnut · 05/07/2025 23:01

I think it looks edgy and pretty. I love the colour.

Neveranynamesleft · 05/07/2025 23:06

I like what I can see of it too. Try wearing it 'messy' and flicked out instead of trying to straighten it all down. Its obviously going to be a shock to the system if it's really different to what you're used to but hair grows ! Dont get it cut again, persevere and let it grow.

When you have washed your hair, dry it briskly with the hair dryer until it’s slightly damp, spray some heavy duty mousse into your hand and scrunch it through your the ends only. The last two inches of your hair.

Then using a large round brush, blow dry it under so that it does not flick out and the mousse will keep it in shape.

TaranFollt · 05/07/2025 23:08

I hope I'm not invalidating your feelings here...but I like your haircut. I don't mean to make you feel not heard, but I like the choppy layers.
It's a horrible feeling when we don't like our haircuts and I'm sorry you don't like your style right now.
Rosemary oil is good for helping hair growth if you want to give nature a little boost.

Redheadedstepchild · 05/07/2025 23:10

Doesn't really matter what everybody else thinks, though does it? OP hates it. We're not going to change her mind after her living nine days with it are we?

Catwoman8 · 05/07/2025 23:13

It doesn't really matter that other people like it, the point is, you really dislike it. I know you are worried about using straighteners frequently, but if you use a good heat protection spray it will be fine. I used to straighten mine everyday and it was never 'fried' You can either straighten it, or use the irons to put a little wave through it to change the look.

3luckystars · 05/07/2025 23:23

Could you use a steam pod on it ? That’s not too bad for your hair apparently.

Frostynoman · 05/07/2025 23:37

Take more off the length - embrace a long pixie.

have you tried letting it dry naturally and have you tried a product on the ends of the hair to make it hang better (ie oil or wax for weight)?

I really like the flick - very French. My hairdresser friend was saying the other day that this style is very fashionable at the moment.

I agree - I would be beyond happy if my hair looked like that.

fgswhywouldIdothat · 06/07/2025 00:02

I have poker straight hair. I would love mine to look like yours. But I understand that you don't like it, and that's what matters. As someone suggested upthread, it looks naturally curly to me - what happens if you try scrunching it and going for curly rather than straightening?

NoelFaraday · 06/07/2025 11:53

It’s giving me Cherie Blair hair vibes so I understand why you don’t like it.

It will grow but meanwhile you could try a wig or a hat wig?
