to want DH to turn the electricity off at the switch when DS is playing "buttons" with the kettle and toaster?

DS 21 months likes sitting on the counter (with us RIGHT THERE) and he pushes the buttons on the toaster and kettle. Fine. I turn them off at the switch. DH is doing it with him now and I made him turn the switch off as the kettle was going off and on every 2 seconds and would probably short in a minute etc and its just in general not a good idea to play with electricity! DH reckons I am being a bit PFBish. Obviously DH is right there and wouldnt let him TOUCH the toaster or kettle if they got hot etc but I just dont want them on at the switch. Who is right?

BTW this is my first legit AIBU thread!

I think you are being a bit PFBish.. as you said you are right beside him, so really its no more dangerous on or off.

mybrainaches · 25/05/2008 17:40

I would'nt even allow him to touch the kettle or toaster, switched off or not.

eenybeeny · 25/05/2008 17:40

yes but if he puts the on off switch on and off repeatedly and it shorts or something...?

You might regret letting him do it at all in a few months, when he can find a way up there when your back is turned.

Carmenere · 25/05/2008 17:41

It is a silly game to allow a baby to play, he is learning that he can touch these things and will not know the difference between them when on or off.

lilolilmanchester · 25/05/2008 17:41

I'm with mybrainaches. Wouldn't allow it at all.

eenybeeny · 25/05/2008 17:41

ok so so far there is one vote for me being PFBish and one vote saying he shouldnt be doing it anyway! oh hell!

for reason carmenere says

eenybeeny · 25/05/2008 17:43

ok - must be a very bad mother!! And here I am thinking I am very PFBish! Gosh. I really didnt think it would be a problem if he pushed buttons with me there and the switch off!!

I wouldnt let him do it at all. It's not a good habit to be in switching kettles and the like off.
