Interesting read. Short version, mum didn't RSVP for kids party in time, was told party was cancelled. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Mum now feels hard done by. I say good job, and maybe she will learn for next time.

Didn't bother reading all that crap but the little bit I did read, made me think the parents of the party child should've just said, 'Sorry you're too late'.

And that would've been the end of it.

Yes, would have been better if she’d simply been told she’d replied too late and the places had been booked for those that had responded. She seemed to expect the other parent to waste their time chasing up people who’d not bothered replying in a timely manner - silly of her to whine about it, hopefully she won’t cock up her kids future invitations.

It’s annoying when people message late and if it’s a pay pp type party it may be there’s no option for latecomers to add on. But just be honest, it was obvious the lie would get caught out

That's a good point, it's even ruder if it's not a home party. But it's rude anyway, either way you need to plan and cater so having no one come or everyone come or extras come can make a huge difference.

As far as we know, the invitation did not specify a deadline for replying which was an oversight on the part of the parent doing the organising. However it was very wrong for that parent to lie about the party being cancelled - they probably did it to avoid back-and-forth arguments about “Oh, can’t you just squeeze in one more?” and so on but it left them looking worse.

That's a huge assumption that they left off the date RSVP wws needed by and interesting conclusion that they are the villain in this scenario 🤔😆

I did say “As far as we know” about the deadline for reply and surely it was still not right to lie about the party being cancelled.
Also, I think the terminology used in the thread title is somewhat extreme - we’re talking about a kids’ party, not a G7 summit.

You don't think someone without basic manners is an arsehole? In this case I was being too nice, she was actually a cheeky fucker
