Dog wet for a wee on my daughter

Ok so you can probably guess what the post is about!
Both my DD (10 and 7) were playing at the beach this evening when a large Labrador comes running over to my daughters and then wees on my DD 7. The man wasn't watching his dog so I told him and he didn't really know what to say but quietly said an apology and went to walk off! I was really annoyed because at this point if it was me I would be extremely apologetic and put my dog straight on a lead!
I then told him his dog wasn't under control and needs to be on a lead. DD 10 is mortified and thinks I should have not said anymore after pointing it out to him and now I'm wondering if I went too far!

YABU - I shouldn't have told him off after he didn't put his dog on a lead
Or
YANBU - I was right to tell him to put his dog on a lead.

Of course you should have said something. It is also possible that the owner may have just been absolutely mortified and didn’t react correctly. Our lovely dog literally looked like he was about to attack a girl once (just barking but ran to to her) , completely out of the blue, has never happened before or since and I was so shocked and mortified that I think I came across rude in the moment.

but absolutely I would be telling someone that their dog weed on my child! He probably shouldn’t have had the dog off the lead on a beach, most beaches don’t allow it.

YANBU the dog should have been on a lead end of! I can honestly say if it was me I know I would have gone batshit at the owner. I’m a dog owner and I keep my dog on a lead, I’d be mortified if he did this and would apologise profusely and at least offer to get them an ice cream or something.

I bet you miss the good old days when You've Been Framed was on the box and you could laugh your arse off at clips of kids falling over and cracking their heads open.

Those still exist, they're all over the internet. Do you only check your emails and come on Mumsnet?

Well great for you. Obviously you have low standards. Most people would be horrified about a great big dog pissing all over their kid.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 03/07/2025 22:04

I’m a wheelchair user and have had several dogs wee up my wheels. The owners have always been absolutely mortified. I take it as a compliment, they like me and are claiming me as their own 😂.

Actually weeing on a person is really bad. He should have apologised more properly, and put his dog on a lead immediately. For your daughter’s sake though I’d make a joke of it to help her feel better, say the dog must think she’s really special to have singled her out like that. And obviously help her wash it off.

Exactly this! We have a dog and I'd be exactly the same. Id be truly mortified! That's what really upset me was how not bothered he was!
I mean how would he like it if he got peed on!!

Yes you've got me bang to rights - that is absolutely all I do, if only I could live in the incredible hilarious exciting outside world where I could laugh like a drain about a dog pissing on a kid. How rich my life would be.

But I'll just have to leave those stratospheric levels of mirth to you, and try to carry on with my sad existence.

Thank you! Yes, completely. We went straight home after that and I do worry that my telling him off may have made it worse for her but I will try to make a joke of it tomorrow. I think I was just absolutely mortified.
