Foam insulation

Posting here for traffic.

My elderly father had foam insulation put into his house about 2 years ago. Not a clever move…. He’s now been contacted by 2 separate outfits (who approached him - not sure how they got his name/address/phone number, although it could be from the outfit that installed it). They say there are vouchers available to have it removed and with those the cost will “only be about £10k”.

Questions…. Has anyone heard of the Spray Foam Advice Hub and is it legit? I suspect not.

Secondly, the Spray Foam Advice Centre (which says it is a non profit organization), is this legit?

Many thanks!

Sounds bogus to me... Given that from their website at the bottom "Spray Foam Advice Hub is a trading name of Remove Sprayfoam Limited", incorporated 2.5 years ago, has filed one set of accounts showing Capital and Reserves of £1. Also, it was nearly struck off by Companies House in March last year. Caveat Emptor - buyer beware

It looks as though they are both marketing fronts for foam removal companies. Looking at the small print and a Companies House search would appear to confirm this. Unless the foam is causing problems, can it just be left in situ?

If dad needs to sell in a hurry (for care home fees) he’d be stuffed. No one could get a mortgage on the house, so I think it does need removal.

i agree that the first one is dodgy. The second I’ll do more research on. It’s down as a non profit, but totally appreciate anyone can stick that in a website.

To be clear the second one didn’t approach him (I’ve not got the second cold callers name yet). It seemed to be recommended in the internet and I spoke to a chap who seemed helpful and impartial. But I’m cynical.

Thanks. I’d noted some but not all of that. God there are some shits out there.

Tbf he wouldn’t necessarily need to sell “in a hurry” for care home fees.

yes if he owns a home he will need to contribute. But they don’t force you to sell and pay up before you can get care. We had similar, except the house proceeds couldn’t be accessed due to a fraud investigation. They simply kept a tab, so to speak, which was repaid once probate went through a few year later. So if you can’t sell straight away it’s not an issue.

even if it was, you just reduce the price accordingly. If something is cheap enough it will sell, and buyers will buy foam insulated houses if the price takes repair into account. If no one can get a mortgage, you remove it then put it up for sale. The care home fees will wait.

honestly it’s done now so I’d leave it. The only real issue is if there’s damage to the roof. Worry about it if there’s an issue. We had it in our old house and it never causes a problem, even when we sold.

Thanks @Whosenameisthis good points. He’s pretty stressed about it. And agree he may not need to action…interesting discussions ahead.
