Been asked to help provide gifts but everything looks like tat. Do kids want a ruler that says "keep being a shining star?!"
Any help gratefully received.

I don't know the budget, but one primary school where I taught used some of the Prizegiving budget to give every leaver a geometry set, which they knew to be of the type specified by most of the secondary schools to which our leavers were heading.
A definitely useful gift which they can use and remember their old school.
It's rather late in the day, but and equipment list from their new school might give you other ideas?

Ageismlives · 03/07/2025 13:45

After the thread about pupils gifts for teachers it's now gifts for teachers to give pupils!

Since when did the end of the school year becaome a second Christmas?

What happened to children goung to school to learn and teachers going to school to teach? Seems they are now " best buddies" buying presents for each other

year6leavers2025 · 03/07/2025 13:46

I am a parent. Rather than a teacher. This is for the goody bag at the party.

Geometry set is a good idea
Personalised pencils or pencil case
Leavers T shirt
Personalised shoe or swimming bag

What is the budget?

twoshedsjackson · 03/07/2025 14:17

Sorry, I misunderstood. How about a notebook to collect autographs from their classmates?

TeenToTwenties · 03/07/2025 14:23

I wouldn't bother. Waste of time and money.
I'm not normally a Grinch, but don't see why it is needed at all.

If it is £5 per child that is £150 that can be spent on something more worthwhile for the school, and if 3 classes then £450!

Please don't the other parents will feel awkward it will become a thing amongst the kids also are you giving the whole class or just your child's friends?

Needmorelego · 03/07/2025 14:27

We (the PTA) gave t-shirts and autograph books and a thing with all their names on in the shape of the leaving date.
None of them looked particularly impressed.
Several of the autograph books got left behind 😂
Personally I'd give them some sweets and a book voucher.

Coffeeishot · 03/07/2025 14:29

I think im misunderstanding sorry , have all the parents been asked to contribute? If so a ruler is probably fine.

Secondary schools can be strict on the type of ruler required these days.
A novelty ruler will be un used and forgotten about.

Needspaceforlego · 03/07/2025 14:33

Who's paying for them?

I never used a geometry set ever.
What would be useful would be calculators is budget allows for that.

Or even just a class photo.

I went to secondary in what feels like the middle ages I never used the geometry set my primary gave out.

CappyHamper · 03/07/2025 14:37

A £5 gift card

Needspaceforlego · 03/07/2025 14:37

How about forgetting useful just go with sweets and a cupcake 🧁

I think useful could become tat beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Moveoverdarlin · 03/07/2025 14:38

Might take some organising but what about a fun photograph of all of Year 6? So not a stuffy school photo, but one of them in mufti gear, pulling faces, laughing, mucking about and putting it in a personalised frame saying ‘Year 6 class of 2025’.

Or put the picture on a mug or tshirt or notebook.

TeenToTwenties · 03/07/2025 14:39

They don't seem to need set squares, only a pair of compasses and a protractor.

They won't use anything given (at least the majority won't). Better off a large bar of chocolate with a self printed wrapper saying 'Goodbye and good luck class of 2025 from XYZ Primary'

cramptramp · 03/07/2025 14:39

I wouldn’t bother with a gift bag for them. The majority are likely to be unimpressed.

DappledThings · 03/07/2025 14:41

I really wouldn't bother. They're getting beyond the age of party bags and there's about a 3% chance you'll find something that the majority of them want let alone all of them.

I'd send the other parents a link to this thread if they're insistent it's a good idea.

SkintSingleMumm · 03/07/2025 14:42

Can the class teacher take a photo of the class together so you can frame and printout? Our school do leavers hoodies with school emblem on and “leavers” and the year eg 25 and inside the 25 lettering is all kids names. Each had one

The chocolate bar sounds the best idea
(obviously an alternative for any children with allergies)

ColdLittleHeart · 03/07/2025 15:07

Instead of a goody bag we’ve got an ice cream van coming to school on the last day (they’re having a disco later on) and all the year 6 leavers are being given a token for a free ice cream.
They’re also getting a postcard which has all their 1st day pictures on as a keepsake.

Chocolate bar with an extra wrapper or label, with a Class of 25 or Good Luck message.
