New thread about fast cars so the Diogo Jota (RIP) one doesn't get further derailed...

After the tragic death of a young international & LFC footballer, a couple of posters have chosen to use the thread mourning him to go on about the dangers of fast cars so I'm starting this thread to continue the conversation elsewhere...

  • Just because a car is capable of doing 100mph+ it doesn't mean that it will be driven at those speeds, the car may well have been bought for acceleration, comfort and prestige
  • No-one will look at this tragic accident and think 'oh I'd better not buy a fast car then' - no-one ever believes it will happen to them

Okay well I will start. There is no evidence of speeding in this tragedy. So it could have been a Honda going 40.

Buying or not buying a fast car will have absolutely nothing to do with this accident taking place - all cars have tyres. All will burst into flame under certain conditions.

A tyre blew and the car burst into flame. So again nothing to do with being a super then.

Your sanctimonious effort is disgraceful and frankly wrong.

I might have worded my post badly but there were 2 people on the main post victim blaming and saying it should be a lesson to all not to buy a 100mph+ car - I'm not the one saying that this accident was any more than that!
As you say, no evidence of speeding and no need for PP's on the other thread to gloat and say that others need to learn not to buy fast cars.
Hopefully I've phrased this one better...

I think you've misunderstood the thread, the OP is saying the same as you

Its too early to say anything about the awful crash, how do you know that speed wasn't a factor? Obviously I'm not saying it was but you can't have it both ways, until there's any evidence none of us can know the cause

Itallcomesdowntothis · 03/07/2025 15:03

I’m not having it both ways because I didn’t speculate nor am I here. I am pointing out hat we don’t know. I said there is no evidence. Having it both ways is saying it wasn’t speeding which I didn’t say.

These are peoples lives and the cavalier attitude to speculation is awful thats what I’m saying.

I'm not interested in the accident as such but I wonder why manufacturers even make cars that go over the speed limit. Why can't they all be restricted? Even if it's for 80mph so if you do speed it's still not excessive.

LlynTegid · 03/07/2025 15:24

Perhaps this is a conversation for another day.

Twilightstarbright · 03/07/2025 17:10

@FloofyBird not all countries have speed limits so one could drive a car at 100mph in those countries?

The victim blaming on the internet is disgusting, it’s a tragic thing have happened.

Because not all countries have the same speed limits. German motorways as an example.

It’s the same principle as with anything that can turn dangerous - just because you can buy a case of 12 vodka bottles in Costco, doesn’t mean you should drink them all in one go.

separately, I absolutely agree that speculating why A tragedy has happened before any real detail is horrific. We see it way too often online these days.

Moonmelodies · 03/07/2025 17:57

Are there any cars that can't do 100mph?
