To having verrucas is a turn off in a relationship

I’ve had them for many years and I have lots of them. I’ve tried almost everything and nothing has worked. Is having verrucas a turn off in a relationship? I want to start dating again.

Verrucas are hugely misunderstood. Over the counter treatments do not actually work – they only sometimes appear to ‘work’ because verrucas come and go unpredictably.

Children catch verrucas easily because the skin on their feet is much more delicate. Adults do not catch them easily because their skin is much thicker – if an adult gets a verruca it’s most often down to having had the virus in the first place since it takes months to establish and then years to clear.

Wouldn’t care or barely notice a verruca in someone I was dating, but MN is batshit about ‘hygiene’ so those are the answers you’ll get.

No you don't see a doctor about a fucking verruca... you buy Bazooka from the chemist FFS 🙄

Also- they are viral. They will go eventually but there's no magic cure...

If I’d tried all the over the counter stuff and it hadn’t worked then I would absolutely go to the Dr.

Who will more than likely tell you that your immune system will clear them, because they’re viral.

Black molasses take a spoonful everyday

That’s why I’d be going to the doctor. If they weren’t going away despite time passing and other methods being tried I’d be wondering how well my immune system was functioning.

They’re not going to run blood tests for a verucca. It’s normal for it to take months/years for your (normally functioning) immune system to clear veruccas. I’d they hadn’t gone in a year or two, yes it might be prudent to see a Dr.

ETA I’ve just checked and the standard time frame for a healthy adult to clear a verucca is 6 months to 2 years

DaisyChain505 · 02/07/2025 18:09

It would only be a turn off if the person was doing nothing about them or had bad hygiene etc.

If I saw them actively trying to get rid of them it wouldn’t be an issue.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 02/07/2025 18:12

I've had veruccas for over two decades - as soon as one goes, another pops up. I had over 20 at one point as a teenager and they were bloody painful. I have about five now. Nothing seems to shift them.

Hadalifeonce · 02/07/2025 18:16

I am currently sitting with an acid filled corn plaster on my verucca.

APC303 · 02/07/2025 18:29

Thanks for the reminder! Salt watering my feet now 😎

There was an episode of Embarassing Bodies once where a mother brought in her daughter whose feet were riddled with verrucas. She’d been told to leave them and they’d go away in a couple of years but they just kept getting worse. TV doc diagnosed her with a serious condition affecting her immune system. She had to have chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant iirc. Anyway, it stayed with me.

Sherararara · 02/07/2025 18:35

Well i suggest you don’t mention it on your dating profile or on the first date over dinner.
Or in the middle of foreplay.

Or make an appointment with a podiatrist?

Yes, or that. Point is I wouldn’t just live with it forever, I’d want to get to the bottom of it eventually.

Yes, if they hadn’t cleared up in the standard time or if they were getting consistently worse than it might be worth a trip to the GP.

I don’t think DH looks closely enough at my feet that he’d even notice if I had a verruca. I guess if he had a foot fetish maybe? One of my daughters had them a few years ago and we tried everything to get rid of them. In the end we gave up and they disappeared on their own after a few months. Apparently they’re viral and your immune system will clear them eventually.
None of the rest of the family caught them from her.

This is what I don't understand. I just don't understand how anyone would even know/notice. I had horrendous warts as a child, all over my fingers so I can see someone would notice if they were that bad. But the odd one? I don't think that would be noticeable.

That episode of Embarrassing Bodies has a lot to answer for. Everybody remembers it!

And they would do absolutely nothing ....because there is nothing they can do.
Dermatology/podiatry... they all refuse referrals too.
Because... there's nothing you can actually do.
They are viral. They go when they feel like it.
