To be sick of men?

Rather lighthearted, but with an air of seriousness.

I've just been on a flight back to the north of England from sunny climes. On the flight at least three men near me were sniffing with such force, I could hear the contents of their noses. One sounded like a sick pig each time he snorted inwards.

I rarely hear women sniff. All these men had women with them. If I had a man who did this, I know I'd have to tell him in a nice way to use a tissue and to stfu. Skanky men folk is why I'm forever single.

AIBU?

There was several women sniffing away on the train I was on this morning.
Also one making a very loud phone call, one watching something on her phone very loud, one stood in a random place in the aisle getting in everyone's way even though there were seats and one with a manky dog that was sniffing people's bags.
Anti social behaviour on public transport isn't a man thing.

Nothings ever a man thing is it? You can bet your house if someone started a thread about chewing gum in the urinals you'd have some one popping up to tell us about the 25 women they'd seen sneaking into the gents with packs of hubba bubba.

Mansplaining and talking over you
Gas lighting
Becoming aggressive if you reject their advances
Raping and pilaging
War
Murder
Paedophilia
Domestic violence
Not allowing women equal opportunities and old boys club attitudes to exclude women
All the disgusting habits snorting, spitting, nose picking, wanking into socks......

10 things I hate about men. 😂😡

I feel I need to defend the sniffers somewhat as I'm currently one of them Sad Hay fever is absolutely ravaging me (female) at the moment and has been for week's. My nose is like a tap, to the point that if I blow it now I get a nosebleed. It's redraw inside and out and I've resorted to sitting in the house with tissue shoved up each nostril. As this isn't the kind of snotty chic I want to rock out in public, and I don't much fancy walking round with a nosebleed either, I'm doomed to sniff and sniff and sniff.

If it's any consolation though, it drives me bonkers too!

I too have hay fever but we aren't making anything like the noise that men make with their noses/throats. That loud snorting thing they do, itr absolutely rank. I'd take someone sniffing into a tissue over that any day.

My son has just returned from university. For some reason he had started the sniffing thing. I’ve told him to stop that it makes me feel sick and it’s disgusting. Thankfully he seems to have stopped. Bad habits need to be dealt with immediately.

My boys are younger but if they start I will be taking the same approach.

I realise I should have said "JUST a man thing".
Generally I find it's all humans that are quite revolting.
Male, female or whatever 😂

I really don't think any other group within society would have a comment like that leveled at them and mumsnet would allow it to stand.

I wonder what mumsnet's reaction would be if that was about black men?

Men are mingers on the whole.

My DH is a sniffer, has awful hayfeaver. I didn’t know he was a sniffer till after I was in love with him, because we met in winter.

He’s not as bad as he used to be I will give him that… but sometimes it fucking irks me. Now DD who is 6 has also started policing it and shouting at him to blow his nose. Don’t think she cares about the sniffing, I think she loves being able to tell her dad off.

LittlleMy · 02/07/2025 19:38

@TreatTreat reminds me of when I used to work frontline in a job centre. So I had one of those dreaded desks where it faces opposite one of the waiting areas and oh my gosh, the amount of men who would sit their grunting, snorting and loudly sniffing and sucking in the contents of their nose into their throats rather than use a tissue 🤢. I swear I’d feel physically ill and as time went on, I used to get so inwardly angry 😅. I work in a very different environment now but I had years and years of it and think I have a smidge of PTSD left over from then!

That’s like saying ‘If this were an entirely different comment, would it be read entirely differently?’

I don’t understand this sentence but please go and look for a fight on reddit

I think my meaning was clear despite my poor typing.

Not looking for fight just discussion.

My point was clear.

Sweeping negative generalisations about any other group would not, and should not, be tolerated.

How revolting. Memory from the Dark Ages, it's reminded me I used to work with a man who spent a lot of the day snorting loudly. You could practically hear the snot rolling down his throat. Lovely. He also used to pick his nose and wipe his fingers on the nearest piece of paper. His poor secretary was often seen carrying, between thumb and forefinger, a letter due to be typed. He was a respected academic who often appeared on tv where none of these quirks showed themselves. The magic of showbiz.😀
