I’ve got trucks and road making vehicles currently working right outside my property. I’ve asked when they’ll stop. They said they are working right through the night all week. Council job. It’s extremely noisy. Is this actually allowed? They said they are working till 5 am. It’s VERY loud.

If it is emergency work they are allowed, I believe.

It is allowed, even if not emergency

been there, feel your pain. In my case it was because I lived on a busy road but I've heard of it happening on quiet roads too.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/07/2025 22:12

Yes they are allowed if it's an emergency or if the council deem it to dangerous to restrict the flow of traffic when the roads are busy during the day.

FeistyCat · 02/07/2025 06:11

They should by rights have notified the street ahead of time, that for an entire week their sleep will be disturbed and families have babies and kids so people need to prepare - even a notice on the council website. Check if there is a roadworks notice on the website (or even Facebook) and if there isn't I'd complain. You could have made alternative arrangements if you had notice.

Yes it's allowed. We had 6 weeks of work like this, through the night, to resurface a road.
I don't know how it's avoidable really.
I'm fortunate that it didn't bother me, even though I'm a light sleeper. I wore ear plugs.
