Early morning noisy neighbours in garden

IABU to be grumpy when the neighbours send their two toddlers and pet dog outside first thing in the morning?
Dad often leaves for work before 6, they have gravel driveway so we hear that, then the rest of the family are up and about.
We have tiny gardens which sort of jigsaw together, they are diagonally opposite to us. The children are on the trampoline 3m from my house, banging drums, pushing those pretend lawn mowers that click, screeching at other, chasing the dog, who barks back. Then mum comes out and yells at all of them, which just adds to the noise.
Sometimes they wait until half 7 but this week it's been before 6am, at weekends too.

As I have no intention of confrontation, I know I have to suck it up, but I'm sure I had a not outside before 9am rule when mine were little

I think in this heatwave I would put up with it ... it'll soon be raining and miserable.

alexalisten · 01/07/2025 11:54

I was out in the early hrs this morning because the house is just unbearable. It will be cooling down after today

BernardButlersBra · 01/07/2025 12:06

YANBU they sound like the neighbors from hell. I don't let my toddlers go out that early

Even when the house is 30 + degrees

JacquesHarlow · 01/07/2025 12:08

The problem is that most people know that British folk don’t do confrontation. So they’ll do what they want

DownsideUpside · 01/07/2025 12:11

YANBU to be grumpy about it but YWBU to do or say anything, having toddlers on a boiling hot morning is hard work and they can use their garden as they please.
They won’t be toddlers forever and summer won’t last forever.
Hopefully after a 6am start they’ll crash out for a nap mid morning and you and the mum will get some peace.

so other peoples life choices should automatically become mine, because it’s hard work? Got you @CactusHeart

BelindaCardAisle · 01/07/2025 12:14

Someone in my street, let their kid practice the recorder at 7am this morning. I'm wondering if their neighbour pissed them off and this is payback, or if they're just inconsiderate, like 99% of folk

I think people should be a little bit understanding that where in a heatwave and high temperatures can be dangerous for small children

Our house isn’t 30+ degrees?! I doubt many other people’s is that early on either? For clarity we live in the hottest and driest parts of the country so are well versed with the heat. We have the curtains closed, windows open, fan etc

My kids are 3 and 5, they're not allowed in the garden until 9 at the weekend (regardless of temperature) as I'm not a selfish bastard.

daffodilandtulip · 01/07/2025 12:38

Next doors kid is only here half the week, but every weekend. The squealing starts at 6am and they never shut the fuck up.

u3ername · 01/07/2025 12:39

I think a lot of people have similar issues.
It juts shows you the uk is not built up for open windows/ outdoor/ garden living.

Are you offering to look after her toddlers in your garden? Then no, her life choice hasn’t become yours.

A lot of people are just generally grumpy about noise. Whether it’s kids, a dog, music, chatting, lawn mowing or power tools. So quickly offended by the fact that living next door to people means you might occasionally hear them. You can’t assume everyone lives in whispers between 8pm and 9am every day just because you do.
Yeah it’s annoying but you see the house’s proximity to other houses when you buy it, it’s like people who buy a house next to a school and complain about kids and parents every day.

cadburyegg · 01/07/2025 18:10

YANBU. There are threads like this every summer. Last year I said on one that I didn’t let my kids out in the garden before 9am and someone ridiculed me!!

I think summer and a heatwave are 2 different things. In general I dont think kids in the garden screaming before 8am is ok but when its a heatwave we all have to pull together to manage the best we can

LlynTegid · 01/07/2025 18:35

No sympathy if you are not prepared to say anything. No reason why they could not be outside without banging drums.

Mmm, hardly “neighbours from hell”. I think many people are putting up with a lot worse than this.

1234whosthatknockingonmydoor · 01/07/2025 18:59

God, for years we had this from our NDN at 8am every Saturday morning, then they went out for the day. All we wanted to do was have a much needed lie in. It has progressed to balls booted at the fence, landing on us in our garden and smashing our plants, car horn tooting boyfriends plus barking and howling dogs. Gentle requests are ignored. I feel your pain.

noodlebugz · 02/07/2025 20:02

Mine are 3 and 5, I yelled this week as zi thought I’d lost one at half eight trying to get out for the school run (hiding in the garden I panicked he’d got into the road while I locked the door) and was mortified but was a panic shout. Pre 6 is far to early. 9am sounds about right.

RentalWoesNotFun · 02/07/2025 20:28

Good luck speaking to them. I hope you get further than me. I got told by my noisy neighbours that it’s normal for kids to play and make noise.

Not the racket they make. At all hours.
Total gaslighting DAVRObehaviour.

espresso14 · 02/07/2025 20:33

If it's only in the recent heat they've been outside early, I think you need to suck it up. It's too hot for them to play outside later, they probably can't sleep in the heat.

It will return to normal soon.

Vaxtable · 02/07/2025 20:35

Sorry 6am! I would be having words along the lines of people are still sleeping, stop the bloody noise
