Does anyone else hate the feeling of a fan blowing air on them?

Inspired by another thread. I hate the sensation of air blowing on me. I feel like I'm alone in this though? I don't live in southern England, where I understand it's so been so hot that maybe the relief of having air moved around is worth the discomfort. But I just don't like the sensation at all.

I used to love it but I have Trigeminal Neuralgia now so even a light breeze on my face hurts like a bastard.

That said, I’ll try and direct it elsewhere rather than be a hot sweaty mess.

Me too. Love the cooling sensation of a fan in hot weather but it gives me a headache after a while if the air is blowing on my face.

CurlewKate · 30/06/2025 08:02

Me too!

Me! I don’t like cold air blasting on me. I particularly dislike air conditioning & climate control in cars & always either turn the vents off, or direct them away from me. DH is the opposite, so we’ve had to learn to live with each other’s preference, eg when on holiday, he sleeps on the side of the bed closest to the a/c, thus shielding me from it with his body. I far prefer being warm to being cold, although I’m not keen on high humidity.

There's an easy answer to it. Don't switch on a fan and have the unbearable feeling of stuffiness, instead.

DappledThings · 30/06/2025 08:59

I love it. I have a fan and never set it to rotating. It's so annoying when a fan you aren't in control of turns away, you get hot again then you get a few seconds of it blowing right at you and the relief of that only to lose it again.

I love the sound of a fan, blow dryer or dehumidifier. Perfect to fall asleep!

Indeed, win/win for me.

I hate it. Hate the noise and if the thing is on oscillate the intermittent nature of it drives me bananas. I've worked in offices where people have tied ribbony things onto the fan to stop people trapping their hair or tie in the blades so as well as the blowing, oscillating and noise there was the intermittent flutter of ribbony things.

Air Con in car aimed at my hands and feet. Fan in house always aimed at my feet only. Cant stand it blowing on my face but if my feet are cool, im cool

AlannaOfTrebond · 30/06/2025 10:45

I find the same with conventional fans with blades, but love the Dyson bladeless ones. It feels like a gentle cool breeze, rather than standing in a wind tunnel!

Myrobalanna · 30/06/2025 10:46

I have a fan blowing on my arse while I sleep.

I am in the south of England and I have a love-hate relationship with fans. Love the cooling moving air their provide but not keen on the sensation on my face.

Indeed. I'm thinking of getting air conditioning in the bedroom, if I can manage the expense. Just can't do fans but do get hot.

Air con is fab. I've got it in my lounge but not my bedroom. You really feel the difference between rooms.

TheDandyLion721 · 28/09/2025 22:01

I hate fans blowing in my face, when I'm hot I'll aim it above me to cool the air around me.

I do love a fresh air breeze though, when I'm warm or the room feels stuffy I just want the window open. Can't stand air con in any way. Yes I'm hot but dont turn that on, it's just irritating!

Also cant stand the air on planes either, it makes my airways feel strange, that along with the noise, I have to focus on a film to get through flights.

Amen to this - yes, me too!
