To have a bin in the car?

I have a small car. I also have children. I commute an hour each way to work. So the car gets a lot of use!
If I am driving to work, or home, it is often the only time I have for a snack, or more likely, an energy drink after a 10- 12 hour shift.
So I have a small bin in the footwell. It a pop up asda one designed for cars. So literally a car bin!

DH thinks it's odd. He says most people just take their rubbish out at the end of the trip. I say if I am having a snack it is easier to pop it in there and then just empty it when it's full rather than throw it in the footwell. I say they wouldn't exist if it's such a wierd concept!

So aibu to have a bin in the car?

Edited for spelling

My car ends up with multiple reusable bottles everywhere

Uh huh. But you don't bin them, you eventually gather them up, wash them and.... reuse them. Clever stuff innit.

Depends. If its plastic, I don't. Plastic and hot cars aren't a good mix.

Not so clever. Innit.

My husband despairs at my Skip On Wheels. But I'm a carer so practically live in my car. No breaks means I eat lunch etc on the go and my car is always a mess. I got in my colleagues car the other day and she had a pedal bin liner in her footwell, handle round gearstick. Genius! So now I have one as well!

I have a car bin.
i don’t know a single person who takes their rubbish in after being in the car. Everyone I knows leaves it all over the car and then every so often cleans out the entire car. I think if your dh is taking his rubbish out of his car every time he gets out of his car he’s the weird one 😂

My DP bought me one for Christmas a good few years ago. It hooks over the gear shift and hangs into the passenger footwell and is perfect for chocbars and biscuit wrappers. I have a roll of plastic bags in the bottom and it has a clever way to hold the one in use open, and has a magnetic strip to close when not actually being filled . I do have a reusable coffee mug and a reusable water bottle, so it can go months without needing to be emptied,
he gave me other gifts too, just in case anyone thinks this is all I got from him.

My car is, itself, a bin.

This sounds great! Can you post a link or say where it was from please?

I have a bin 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm so pleased I don't have massive problems like this one.

I cannot imagine leaving rubbish in a car after a journey. So grim. I keep a bag of nappy sacks in the passenger doorwell. Any rubbish produced goes in a nappy sack. Taken out of car at the end of the journey to the kitchen bin. It's really not hard. Cannot bear to think what food rubbish is festering in other cars, especially in this heat

I’m a community nurse and I have a black bag in the boot of my car. Normally full of empty juice bottles sweetie wrappers and of course gloves.

I have two pop up bins. A big one in the back for the kids, and small one in the front for me. Any big bits I make the kids clear out once we get home, but mainly they're for long journeys England/ Scotland and commuting to work (2 hours each way). Everyone comments on them, thought I was the weird one, but glad to see I'm not 😊

This is such a brilliant idea! I am going to do this! My car is absolutely full of crap!

AgnesX · 01/07/2025 07:40

Sounds like a good idea, my door pocket is usually rammed with all bits of junk.

GentleJadeOP · 01/07/2025 08:50

I have a bin in mine. Always have, even if just a carrier bag over gear knob. When we are carting children and shopping there’s just not enough time or hands to bring everything in every time!

BarnacleBeasley · 01/07/2025 09:28

I'm going to get one. My car is always full of apple cores, and when I'm trying to unload two small children and all their shit at the end of the day, I don't also want to be gathering up manky apple cores to bring inside.

Sorry but what is a woke custart tart? Is this some term I've never heard of that your DH is calling us, or a typo?!
