To wonder about going to Turkey for cosmetic surgery....anyone done it?

I need my implants removing. I can't afford to get them replaced in the UK. The NHS will remove them and then I'll be left with knackered breasts which fills me with utter dread. The thought of combining surgery with a holiday for a third of the price is looking appealing but also terrifying! Has anyone done it?

Not in a million years. You’ve only got to Google how many people die from infections, sepsis and other serious complications from getting cheap surgery in places like Turkey. It’s cheap for a reason and there’s no way I’d play Russian roulette with my life. Sure there’s people with positive stories, but for me it would be a risk too far.

You need to weigh up risking your life over having 'knackered breasts'.

You need to weigh up risking your life over having 'knackered breasts'.

And it won't be so cheap when you factor in the cost of the special insurance you need to do this; and if anything goes wrong the NHS (after you get back, if you get back) will treat a life-threatening emergency, but anything corrective or non-urgent will not be treated.

I wouldn’t go to Turkey. I would be willing to do Korea, Japan or Indonesia.

Just don't do this. Not worth your life

I know someone who went over to have a gastric bypass/sleeve not sure which one, she has had no complications and had great results. There are many people who aren’t as lucky though so I would do a lot of research before making any decisions.

I went to Turkey at the beginning of the year for a "mommy makeover" which actually consisted of removing loads of loose skin on my stomach that got sore and infected constantly, a 9cm repair of my abdominal muscles and a breast reduction (have had massive boobs since primary school).
After seeking support from the NHS for the skin removal and diastasis recti, it became clear I wouldn't get any offer of help or support with this so decided to take matters into my own hands.

I researched meticulously and finally found the surgeon/company I wanted to use after lots of conversations with previous clients that had had their surgery with them too.

I can honestly say it was the best decision ever. Yes you read about these backstreet practices and the subsequent horror stories but many many people go through with these kinds of operations and have no complications at all. It's to do with common sense and doing proper thorough research!!!

Probably not going to get many positive responses on here but I'm happy to chat if you wanted to PM me.

Lithuania seems to be popular now.
When I toyed with the idea of a facelift, it was Costa Rica. U.S trained surgeons.
A lot of Americans and Canadians go to CR for cosmetic surgery and dental work.
I'm not up to date anymore, that moment has passed! This site is good to read.

Lots of people have great results.

But lots of people have huge problems with aftercare - some life threatening - because the standards are lower.

So, if you do it, pick your surgeon and clinic with extreme care.

We had a patient who went abroad for an abdominoplasty.

Got infected.

Huge scarring.

No money to get it sorted in the UK.

NHS wouldn't touch it.

Only option was to keep going to a and e and getting antibiotics.

Until it got worse and worse. Then need NHS plastic surgery but they would only do the bear minimum.

Lots of further a and e admissions.

Think the stomach is a mess now. But nothing can be done because the NHS won't touch and will do basic treatment that is life saving. And they can't go private .

Don't do it. You might get lucky or you might not.

I’ve seen several patients in similar situations, scarring, infections, some serious and life changing. It’s cheaper for a reason…..
