Inspired by another thread. If there was another pandemic tomorrow, irrespective of how government chose to handle it, we’d still face the same issues and be woefully unprepared.

The thing is we actually had policy and guidelines the government ignored them and decided to create their own which was pointless

I don't think we could ever lockdown again with that level of compliance. I certainly wouldn't - there is nothing on this earth that would cost me precious time with loved ones ever again.

We've had the century's pandemic. Why are you so keen to think we'll be having another any tine soon OP?

As you can see from this thread, some people bloody loved it!
I actually feel a bit sorry for anyone who loved lockdown. Their real lives must be really rubbish.

We’d be less able to cope than last time. Depending on type of virus obvs

If we do, it's some time away. I wouldn't say it will never happen again, but it would be impossible as things stand.

I think full compliance with a lockdown would be lower, but I guess it depends on the virus. There’s also limited scope to ‘not comply’. If things are shut, they’re shut!

There is, but I think it's obviously implied that people are talking about the things that are within their control.

So people mean using businesses that are operating illicitly/continuing to run their own business illicitly, rather than thinking they're going to break into closed shops or theatres for example. Quietly ignoring rules about seeing loved ones, rather than trying to get them changed.

When it comes to illicit work in particular, I'm not sure people who weren't exposed to it necessarily realise just how much carried on behind closed doors last time.

I've got 30 toilet rolls and a pasta machine. Work still have a few hundred boxes of face masks left over from the pandemic.

Thirty toilet rolls and a pasta machine should be your username 😆👍

magneticturtle · 29/06/2025 19:29

That would be a good user name actually
