I have been interviewing with a Big Tech company for some weeks and I had what I thought (and was told) was the final interview. They’re now asking me to go on site for a 5th round. Job is remote and I live 6 hours away from their closest office.

I find it odd they'll invest on me to go their office when it's a fairly "standard" role.

I would expect to meet a potential employee in person and no rely on remote interviews so this is a good sign. But 5 rounds for a standard job… seems OTT. Good luck!!

I've worked remotely for the past 14 years. I've never had to go on site for an interview before.

This may be a location test. Even for a remote job, you're likely to have to go to the office occasionally for annual or one-off meetings. You'd be amazed how many people think huge travel is fine only for them to realise it's a problem when it becomes a reality. Could they be asking you to go on site so you can test the reality? (As well as meeting people face to face, which you learn far more from than online).

I doubt it, I mean I worked remotely my whole life (for American companies) and travelling is part of my type of role, so I wouldn't be do it properly without travelling. My hunch it's a culture fit. But 5 rounds? And pay for my travel? At least I know they're invested
