I have just picked my child up from a playdate and, on the way out, the mum gave both my kids a chupa chup. These fucking lollies. They're a huge choking hazard, they're impossible to open, and they're terrible for kids' teeth. I can't stand the bloody things. Currently perched on the sofa watching the kids eat them. I can't leave the room until I know the choking danger has passed. I am perhaps a touch neurotic.

Im pretty sure they’re sugar free now so I won’t give them as I don’t let me kids have artificial sweeteners

I chuck them away if we get them in a party bag or something. Don’t care if my DD gets cross, I give her something else to have instead. I’m really not strict on food, just lollies.

I also can’t bear the sucking noise.

Everything is a choking hazard all sweets.
When I was 8 my teacher handed out hard boiled sweets in and oval shape and i was having mine as I left the class after school. Slipped down my throat and got lodged. I newrly died. No one helped. I had to lean over a bench and wack my chest over and over and over until it came out. No one came deapute being distressed and gasping. I have never gone near a hard boiked sweet ever again.

I think at 8 you need to let them eat it and explain the choking risk to them and make sure they eat sitting still.

5 is too young for one and I would have eaten it for them and got them something else.
