Easy jet cabin bag.

Dd is going on holiday with a friend and her family for 10 days. They have booked the flights and we are sending them the money. They have opted for just the free underseat luggage option for all them. I’m not convinced that all her things for 10 days are going to fit. Would I be unreasonable to offer to pay for upgrade so she gets an extra cabin bag in locker above? Is it doable to pack for 10 days in underseat luggage?

I always just take ten under seat option for all of us but I am very minimalistic. Depends where they travel to. If it's a hot country, she just can wear sandals, no need for extra shoes and just some light summer clothes and easily doable. Does she have access to a washing machine, that would probably help.

suki1964 · 27/06/2025 12:39

I also can easily manage 10 days in an underseat case, longer if there's a washing machine at the accommodation

Wear the walking shoes jeans and jacket, decant lotions and potions into travel containers or click and collect at boots , use the hotel/accommodation hairdryer and the underseat is plenty

I roll everything, I can even fit sandals between the liner and the shell :)

But only you know how much "stuff" she travels with

ScholesPanda · 27/06/2025 12:43

I couldn't do it for ten days. Try packing the case with a minimal holiday wardrobe, maybe pick up toiletries etc at the destination, one pair of shoes etc.
If you can't make it work I don't think you'd be unreasonable to pay for an upgrade.

Spanador · 27/06/2025 12:48

I went for 3 days recently with just a cabin bag and struggled so no way could I do 10 days

FastFood · 27/06/2025 12:53

I travel very light, generally just one pair of shoes, no hairdryer, never had an issue with Ryanair, but Easyjet's rules are way more drastic, I was charged £50 the other day. Fair, I didn't check.
On the way back I just put my bag in the hold and brought a shit load of local food.

Ablondiebutagoody · 27/06/2025 12:54

Depends where they are going. Europe in the summer is easily possible. Wear anything bulky for the journey. Minimal shoes, minimal toiletries decanted into smaller bottles (get a job lot of these from Amazon), buy suncream etc out there. Sarong type thing or travel towel rather than beach towel. Also check if an additional handbag is allowed. Probably not.

I would be wary of suggesting that what they have kindly booked isn't good enough.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/06/2025 13:03

Isn’t underseat just a small rucksack/handbag. That’s sounds really small to me for 10 days. Presumably that’s needs to cover clothes for 10 days, and toiletries, a book or 2 as well as things like a hairbrush/purse/electronics. Doesn’t seem much space for all that

IdLikeABackMassage · 27/06/2025 13:03

I think it might be treading on the toes of the other family if you suggest dd needs a bigger baggage allowance than they chose.

She'll be fine. Very kind of you to think of it though.

The thing with picking up toiletries and sunscreen there is that you might end up spending more compared with paying for luggage and taking with you.

PawBroon86 · 27/06/2025 13:05

I can do 10 days with just the underseat bag but it just depends what you like to have with you, I travel very light and if I need to buy an extra t-shirt etc when I'm there it's still cheaper than buying the extra luggage

randomusername03 · 27/06/2025 22:35

depends, does she wear make up? will she reuse clothing? i couldn't do it for 7 days, its not a big bag.

Seeline · 27/06/2025 22:48

Do you mean the under seat bag alone?
Or have they paid for a cabin bag which is bigger?
My tiny size 8 DD could probably do a 10 day beach holiday with that.
My knickers alone would probably fill it!

rookiemere · 28/06/2025 08:52

Amazon sell bags that are exactly the measurements so she gets the maximum, but even at that it’s not a lot. I can easily do most holidays on a cabin sized bag, but would find the free one a bit of a challenge. However there is also something about fitting in with the host family, so only you know if your DD can travel light or not.

Conxis · 28/06/2025 09:08

It’s a small backpack size. I can do it for 5 days with 3 sets of summer clothes, underwear, nightwear, small amount toiletries/makeup but no way for 10 days unless there’s a washing machine and they’re going to be using it regularly.

Also beware buying shampoo, suncream, insect repellent etc in resort. We found it double the price than if bought in Asda but we didn’t have room to take any!

wlinewbie0425 · 28/06/2025 09:14

I think some on here are confusing underseat bag with cabin bag.

The free one that you have to put under the seat in front of you is a small size rucksack on easyJet (45/36/20cm) and they do often measure them. I can manage an overnight with it, maybe two but that with cutting back ruthlessly on what I take. I would struggle to manage a week and I am pretty minimalist. She needs to wear shoes for walking in, trousers and as many of the bigger items layered on her to travel as possible. Roll everything else tiny and be prepared to rinse and reuse knickers/bras/swimwear/tops. do a click and collect for essential toiletries only at the airport boots as the duty free bag doesn’t count and can be carried separately (although still can’t go in overhead locker so she needs to squeeze under seat with rucksack too). Then ditch the toiletries for return. No straighteners etc - use the hairdryer where she’s staying or embrace natural beachy hair!

SagittariusDwarf · 28/06/2025 09:20

I travel very light but would struggle with ten days and just the small rucksack allowance, even if there was a washing machine available.

Motomum23 · 28/06/2025 09:24

Get one of those suitcase rucksacks from ebay or amazon. They hold absolutely loads compared to a normal bag and fit under easyjet seats no problem x

Worriedmrs · 28/06/2025 09:37

Are you sure free checked bag is not allowed. I have booked with EasyJet holidays thrice and I am given a free underseat bag as well as a free checked bag of 23kg. If you have a PNR no then check the booking. A lot of people won’t pay extra for trolley bag as the checked bag is free.

My niece recently travelled with another carrier which just allowed under seat bag so she used a vacuum bag inside the ruck sack. On her way back she asked reception for vacuum who happily sent the cleaning staff to help her out.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 28/06/2025 10:05

@Worriedmrs Maybe you got free 23 kg bag because you booked an easyjet holiday. I travel with easyjet about 6 flights a year and always have to pay for any hold baggage (expensive!). The only free bag is the underseat one and they are very thorough about checking the size if they think it might be over and insisting it goes in the hold and extra payment if it does not comply.

kiwiane · 28/06/2025 11:44

It’s their trip and her taking a bigger bag affects the group tickets so just pack and assume she will be able to rinse some things through to wear again. I have a really cute roll on case from cabin max; there are also small rucksacks - it’s good for your daughter to see how little she really needs.

TheAutumnCrow · 28/06/2025 12:04

I manage with just an underseat bag on EasyJet by wearing a lot of clothes to get through the gate and onto the plane.

I’m not the only Michelin Man rolling through.

I also stuff my (lightweight) coat pockets with my documents, meds in a plastic see-through bag, phone, wallet, snacks, you name it.

Every B&B room everywhere now has a sink, soap, kettle, hangers.
