Hello, Poo Pic
can anyone tell me if this poo is normal
for a 5 month old? My little girl suffers quite badly with eczema and itchy skin constantly. We’ve tried so many creams from the GP and they have just prescribed stronger steroid cream for her and more antihistamines.
my son had a milk allergy and was put on SMA Althera but I can’t remember what his poos were like.
I have asked for a an allergy test numerous time but always told no, she will grow out of it by she’s one.

Looks exactly the same as my little one. Is she on formula? Or breastfed?
I would suggest buying a couple of tins for the althera and trying it out. You'll soon know, although it does take up to 12 weeks for the tummy lining to heal.

Best to try it now with formula before you go on to solids (if you haven't already) otherwise if it is another allergy instead/too, it is tricky to find out.

I would also go to a&e. Your baby has had diarrhea for their entire life. If an adult had diarrhea for 5 months we would be seen. Unfortunately allergies just aren't treated seriously enough. Failing that I was extremely cheeky abd sent a big essay and lots of photos of skin and poo to the paediatrics department at my local hospital via email (I called up and the hospital switchboard and then was transferred to paediatrics where I asked them for their email address and doctor who leads with allergies so I could address the email to them). In my daughter's case the GP 'lost' the referral 3 times. So I bypassed them this way and got an appointment. However the waiting list is extremely long, and blood results aren't 100% reliable. For example my daughter tests positive (allergic) to coconut and oats but is actually fine to eat them, but tests negative for almond but is definitely allergic.
If you try the althera and there is an improvement you could also then return to you GP with the before and after photos of nappies and skin.

I would recommend the Facebook groups for kids with allergies. They have lots of great advice and understanding!

For the skin, try not to use the steroid cream if they have prescribed it as you can become dependent on it. Use cetraven and hydromol for moisturisers 4-6 times a day. Use steroids cream when it is reslly bad and be sure to follow the instructions for weaning the off or the eczema will return immediately. Only use dermal 600 in the bath when eczema is raw and active like it seems to look in the picture, but don't use it forever. Try to use it just when needed.
Wishing you luck, you know with you son how tricky it is, especially when you don't have a supportive gp. Speak to your healthy worker too, they may be able to offer guidance (I did baby massage through them to help with constipation and trying to relax her when in pain) and also they can write to the GP to support you.

Hi @BookArt55 thank you for your reply! So I took her to A&E on Sunday as I just couldn’t stand to see her so uncomfortable, she’s been referred to a eczema specialist. I explained her symptoms again to the GP and they prescribed her another type of milk which has no dairy in at all.
shes been on the milk since Tuesday evening and wow what a difference! No itching today and she’s only had one poo that actually looked like a normal poo! I have given her a bath today so we will see what her skin is like tomorrow but so far so good! This will be the 9th time I’ve taken/spoken to the GP, it’s been a long process but hopefully we’ve found the reason for all the itching. So so horrible seeing her with her skin like that head to toe. I’ll let you know how she gets on!

@Mumtobe888 I am so glad to hear this! Well done for pushing and speaking up because it is so hard to be that relentless with pushing medical staff. Fingers crossed everything calms down now and this sorts it. Just as a little bit of support incase things go backwards a bit... my youngest has loads of allergies, when we went on perscription milk things got better but then would go bad again, symptoms returning. Sometimes it can be as simple as trying a different perscription milk. For her, in the end, I think we tried them all 😄 🤣 what I am trying to say is don't be disheartened! But on a positive note, skin/poo and everything is looking so good so it does look like it was a good fit for your little one. Yay!!!!!!!
