Aaargh : another week, another kids birthday party. My DDs 12 and I'm feeling just a little jadedtired. This afternoon it's a girl classmate's fancy dress ice skating party fgs.I'm stressed out, don't have the money or desire to hire costume nor the creative, imaginative spirit right now to think of anything nor sewing skills to rustle anything up - and we've only got a few hours. I know I've made a rod for my own back in so far as I've brought my kids up to strive for originality and avoid cliches, so my DD wants something different, and won't be fobbed off with a witches hat left over from Halloween or cat's whiskers drawn on with eyeliner... help!!!

wrap her up in toilet roll. home made mummy. (can you tell i am not creative either)

someone in dd's class went as a scarecrow at halloween, check trousers, old jactet, weird hat and hay sticking out of weird places.

I love fancy dress, but dsd (12) isn't keen on dressing up. Whenever we go anywhere with her and she doesn't dress up we say she's come as a stroppy teenager.

Send her as-is and tell her she's a muggle

We had similar - went as hippy (DD1 age 6 was thrilled) - flared jeans, silky flower top, frizzy hair, bandana, long heart necklace (mine), hearts and flowers drawn on face - she looked fab
Cost nada effort minimal
