Is this really that bad…sugar free of course. Fire away please!

TinySaltLick · 24/06/2025 20:48

No but caffeine that late at night surely is disrupting your sleep

Katemax82 · 24/06/2025 20:48

I normally do...

BodenCardiganNot · 24/06/2025 20:48

Yes, it's bad.

SunnySideDeepDown · 24/06/2025 20:48

I love Coke Zero, and probably drink too much of it myself, but it’s definitely unhealthy. The sugar or lack of isn’t the issue. The additives are.

MyOpalReader · 24/06/2025 20:49

Vile

LadyKenya · 24/06/2025 20:49

It is full of rubbish.

YetiRosetti · 24/06/2025 20:50

I absolutely love the stuff but I’m under no illusions it’s good for me… I try to stick to weekends but when I drink it I drink loads!

how much are you having per night?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 24/06/2025 20:50

I used to drink a few cans a day 😬😬

I miss them but have been off for a few weeks now

One a day won't hurt, im sure - if I had any willpower, id do the same x

OtterlyMad · 24/06/2025 20:52

I mean it’s obviously not as bad as drinking alcohol or smoking or being overweight but it won’t be doing your health much good. I’m a Pepsi Max fiend myself so no judgement from me but I limit myself to a couple of cans a week. Could you cut down a bit?

TinySaltLick · 24/06/2025 20:53

It's almost entirely water with a miniscule amount of sweetener.

People have said the sweeteners are bad for decades - but all these years later there is no body of evidence that shows ill health effects

Go for it!

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2025 20:54

People will tell you it’s dreadful.

Do you sleep OK, eat mostly healthily, hydrate with other things too, have decent health? If yes, the chances that Coke Zero is going to get you are… zero. Pun intended.

Just one can, and it helps me not crave sugar after dinner

I have 2 cans of Diet Coke most days and don't intend to stop, my teeth are great and I've got to 51 without any health issues.

I don't drink, smoke and eat healthy so I'm going to carry on as I am

Then I’d say there are far worse vices than one can of Coke Zero per day! Enjoy!

worrisomeasset · 24/06/2025 20:55

I occasionally have one of those small 150ml cans that are sold as mixers. I don’t think I’d want anything bigger. As with OP, I get the occasional craving for something sweet and a small Coke Zero sees it off. There’s no problem here as far as I’m concerned.

Oatsamazing · 24/06/2025 20:59

I drank a lot of Pepsi max in my 20s and 30s, maybe 500ml a day, and it has removed a lot of the enamel from my teeth leaving them quite yellow.

Use a straw

Apparently the sweetener has the same effect as sugar in terms of a glucose spike. Which is bad in terms of insulin and your blood sugar. Not sure of science but I treat Diet Coke the same as full fat now.

ShinySquirrel · 24/06/2025 21:13

It's all about balance and what works for you. The OMG DISGUSTING crowd probably exist on fresh air and woven lentils so it will seem extreme to them. If you're like me and have had, or have, a rubbish diet, then it's small potatoes. Better a can of Coke Zero after dinner every day than a bag of Haribo.

It helps you not crave sugar. Therefore it's the lesser of two evils. If you feel it's causing you problems then you can re-evaluate and cut back if you want to.

SaturdayDream · 24/06/2025 21:15

Some people wake up and drink energy drinks sll
dsy long.

You’re fine.

My CGM begs to differ. (Diabetic, can monitor the effects in real time.)

Everyone is different and yes, it can cause small spikes in blood glucose but it is nowhere near the same as full sugar.

ZenNudist · 24/06/2025 21:34

I do. It's my treat. I buy caffeine free coke.

There’s a number of people on Instagram who consume various foods and drinks and measure how much of a glucose spike they cause with one of those round things that are stuck on your arm. I’ve seen a couple of them test out Coke Zero and it caused no spike at all, unlike the full sugar version.

FancyCatSlave · 24/06/2025 21:36

I have one can a day, at breakfast. I don’t like coffee and I like the caffeine.

I only have a second if it is a very bad day indeed. I don’t have many vices.
