To think NHS management needs serious scrutiny?

I have no issue with the hardworking frontline staff but I can’t help but feel that NHS management and the way resources are prioritised need a serious investigation. From money being wasted on bureaucracy to strange spending decisions, it feels like something isn’t adding up. AIBU to think this should be looked into more closely?

Take the broken equipment. Do you think the surgeon is going to arrange for it to be fixed? Call EBME? Call the rep to come and look at it? Do you think surgeons cancel patients themselves? Certainly not in our organisation, they will only cancel if it’s for clinical reasons - if it is any other reason they flatly refuse unless accompanied by a manager. I’ve had to return to the hospital at 6pm before because some poor half starved patient hadn’t been told his surgeon had run out of time and the surgeon flatly refused to cancel the patient/tell the patient and left the hospital.

The matrons moved staff around to make critical areas safer. They pulled the nurse managers into the numbers. They called around the nurses who were on off days.

Gosh, it does hard where you work.

The thing is, if you weren't doing the cancelling of the patient, someone else would do it. For example, one of the junior doctors, one of the clinical nurses specialists, a radiographer. All these people have intense patient facing roles and could do many bits of your post. Radiographers routinely sort out bits of equipment. This is on top of the jobs they have specialist qualifications for.

Also, I cannot imagine a doctor refusing to see a patient that was cancelled. Expecting you to do it is awful. Say the patient had a medical question eg will it get worse while I wait for rescheduling etc . It seems like a nurse or Dr job to me.

Money is most definitely wasted by management in the NHS, over 15 years working for various NHS organisations and I've just applied for Voluntary Redundancy as its a complete shit show! I'm at risk of compulsory redundancy or redeployment and done with the thought of what will be left behind after all these job cuts.

It sounds to me like management need to have a word with their clinicians in this department. Leaving a vulnerable patient hanging like that is negligent.
