Dh and Dd getting things out of the bin

I find it embarrassing

We live in a v wealthy area, many of the houses nearby are rented out to holiday makers (tourist place)
Dh and dd often take the rubbish to the bins
Different to the uk, you take your bags to huge bins at the end of the road and bin men collect it all at night
Dh and Dd have just come back excitedly with a huge beach umbrella, brand new, still wrapped up, admittedly we do need one and I was about to get this weekend, so it comes in handy, but still feel a bit embarrassed.
They’ve come back with garden chairs before, a boogie board (brand new) etc

Would you be embarrassed or chuffed?

Recycling at its best. I rescued a Dyson once from a skip that builders had put in. All it needed was the filters washing and it worked perfectly for years.

I'm currently sitting in a chair that my dd found dumped in the street. She said she knew I'd be proud of her for bringing it home and I was!

Oh I want to live where you live!

This could turn into a great side hustle 💰💰

JorgyPorgy · 23/06/2025 23:33

Is this what’s called a humble brag?! 😅
but no it’s good to save stuff from landfill & save money 😄

I come home with all sorts - love a bit of wombling! I'm forever shouting 'Treasure!' and making poor DH stop the car for things people have put out. Got a brilliant garden table last summer and some shelves that fit perfectly in our porch for seedlings.

I applaud your DH and DD for recycling

RandomMess · 24/06/2025 08:41

Definitely a side hustle for your DD to do with help from your DH.

ARichWomansWorld · 24/06/2025 08:45

Brilliant, I would be thrilled being able to afford a new item is irrelevant it’s the saving stuff being chucked out from landfill that I applaud.

I wouldn't be that embarrassed as I think the person probably intended for it to be picked up by someone who wanted it. But I can understand why you're embarrassed about DD excitedly going "woohoo! bin shopping time!" each time as if it were a Primark trip 😂
