Bras

AIBU to ask you about you bras?

How many days do you generally wear them before washing?

How many do tend to own, especially bigger sized ladies, that tend to cost a small fortune for a decent one!

And finally hand wash or bung in the machine?

Promise I’m not a freak! Regular poster, long time name changer.

How many times they're washed depends on the weather and how sweaty I've got. If it's roasting then I'll wash it after that one wear. Normal weather and I'll do it 2-3 times a week. I've only got the one bra because of finally getting measured properly. Unfortunately I don't have huge boobs so don't really know about bras of that size. Im an awkward size, 30D, and use a website called Brastop. They also do bigger sizes and they're not mega expensive so maybe check out the website for a decently priced bra. The quality is excellent and I've never had such a comfortable bra. Also bunged into the washing machine, can't be arsed with hand washing😅

DramaAlpaca · 23/06/2025 15:57

OK I don't mind answering:

A couple of days usually, but just one wear if it's been a hot day

How many do I own? Far too many, in all different styles and colours

Bung in the machine, life's too short to handwash

Purplebunnie · 23/06/2025 15:57

Not washed often enough at once a week. In a special net bag in the washing machine and never tumble dried - I don't wear underwired. Only two at the moment which is why they don't get washed enough. I need to go buy more but can't be arsed with the M&S fitters which is the only place I have to go as Debenhams closed down who were much better bra fitters. I've also put on weight and I don't want to be offered an unglamorous tent to try and hold them up with

It's not much fun being an old overweight woman

Edit they are really big bras I think without looking 42F or G

Clarinet1 · 23/06/2025 15:58

Well I’m also fairly large; I have four bras at the moment and sometimes wear them for several days before putting them for wash but, owing to medical needs, I don’t get round getting fully dressed every day and then not always for the whole day so this gives them time to air.
Mine cost about £100 each from a top specialist shop so I wash them by hand - it doesn’t really take long and they dry overnight.

Have you tried measuring yourself? The boob and bust method is so easy and it saves the embarrassment of having a shop fitting

creekyjohn · 23/06/2025 16:02

I was a bigger size at 44FF/G but am now into 38F and I pay the same for my bras now as I did then. I wear Ann summers and they are £16 each so not at all expensive. I had loads and now only have 5 because I’m loosing weight. Once I have settled on a size I will probably end up with loads again! I wear a clean bra every day.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 23/06/2025 16:08

One day, machine-washed. M&s, nothing fancy.
Probably 25, as I often have a 3 week holiday.

I have tried before I'll give it another go thank you. Our Debenhams was so wonderful

SALaw · 23/06/2025 16:14

I don’t own enough when it comes to going on a hot summer holiday so went to buy some plus some swimwear and nightwear from Bravissimo due to their colossal size and oh my god the price! Could’ve had a decent holiday upgrade instead. It’s clearly a total racket and they know they have big breasted women cornered.

Whirlpoolducksausage · 23/06/2025 16:15

I'm a large size. A decent bra is very important for me. I have loads of bras. Not sure how many. I've recently converted to snag bras, they are the only ones I wear now. They are so supportive and comfortable. I have about 8 or 9 of those. I wash them pretty much after every wear.

When I last tried m&s I was trying on bras that were the same size. So barely fit others were massive. The ones that did fit were not very supportive.

Look up the boob and bust method. It's so much better than the old way of measuring. I found that it gave my size perfectly

Parrotdrill · 23/06/2025 16:20

Wash every day - throw in machine . Nothing special - Primark or Tesco .

own about 10

take travel wash and handwash on holiday if haven’t enough for fresh one every day.

Ann summers is brilliant, and as another “unusual” size I’ve just nabbed all their stock at £3 a bra 😆 after years of paying bravissimo and rugby and peller prices that fills like the ultimate win!!!

MiddleAgedDread · 23/06/2025 16:30

Wear them 2 days before washing in the machine (in one of those mesh bags). Ain't got time for handwashing!! Sports bras are single use apart from pilates which isn't sweaty apart from when they don't switch the air con on
I have fairly small boobs so can buy cheap bras, not sure how many I have, 5 or 6 maybe?

ProteinCherry · 23/06/2025 16:35

I've got five bras:
Fantasie fusion full cup bra, nude (£37/ea) - in sizes 38G (new yesterday), 40G (now too big due to weight loss and is getting thrown away), 38F and 38FF (these are slightly too small in cup but wearable, both could do with replacing anyway due to wear and tear but...). Empreinte 34E c.£90 (that one fitted me six years ago when I was 3 st lighter, and it looked so lovely...worth the £££) - definitely too small now and unwearable.

So only one that is the correct size, but I wear the 38FF too. I don't wash them anywhere near enough. I'll alternate use to air them I guess in an ad hoc way. I don't even wash them as often as once a week, unless it is hot weather. Although I don't wear them all day. If I'm just hanging around the house then I won't put on a bra until I'm going out/quite frequently take it off fairly soon after getting in.

I think I have realised that this is not good enough. I'll order another 38G and wash more frequently from now on! Oh to get to a weight I am happy with an build up to having 5+ really nice well fitting ones in the correct size...

LaurieFairyCake · 23/06/2025 16:46

Changed every day, washed in the machine

FutureCatMum · 23/06/2025 16:48

Another large sized one here. Wash sports bras after each gym session, others last 1-2 days max. Chuck in washing machine and yes I tumble dry too unless they can go out on the line (strong pegs or they take off like sails!).
I have far too many to count but probably 8-10 daily ones I like that go under any outfits, some going out bras and occasional minimisers if I have a top or dress that’s tighter. I have a wide range of M&S, Debenhams, Ann Summers and Matalan ones are actually good and comfy.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 23/06/2025 16:50

I have 4 or 5 bras. I'm a 40H although my bras are all a G cup as it's the biggest I could find and afford. I wear them 2-3 times until I wash them.

Gettingbysomehow · 23/06/2025 16:51

Mine go into the washing machine to die. I haven't got time for hand washing. I've yet to meet one that doesn't survive.

Nopenousername · 23/06/2025 16:53

I have 5 bras, all from bravissimo, all same size and so I need a back extender as I got 3 in 2022 and then 2 more in 2023 but have put on weight since. All washed after roughly 5 days of wear unless it’s very hot like last week then wash daily. Washed in a net bag in a washing machine, like previous posters I don’t tumble dry them ever. I would actually like to get some new ones but it’s such a faff as there is no bravissimo near me and so it’s a half a day round trip and such an expense to get 2 or 3 decent bras

curious79 · 23/06/2025 16:56

Formally big busted lady here. Now post mastectomy so I am down to 36D, wear triumph, and chuck them in the washing machine.
When I was 34G, and wearing Empreinte, I had about 8 or so bras, I would only ever wear them for at most two days. I washed them on a hand wash cycle at 30c, without the spin, using a silks and delicates washing liquid, then allow them to drip dry hung over the bath

SusanChurchouse · 23/06/2025 16:57

Washed every few wears in the washing machine on a delicate cycle.

My weight has fluctuated a bit over the past year or so for medical reasons so I feel I’m buying them all the time. I currently have 2 underwired ones that fit. Both were about £40 from a local lingerie store because I can only get my size (30GG currently) in specialist places (technically I’m a 28 back but wear a 30 for comfort). I also have 3 non wired ones for lounging/sleep and a post surgery bra I got for post lumpectomy that I don’t really wear.

Wompers · 23/06/2025 17:08

36E here. I have far too many bras. Several Fantasie / Panache (1 new from Bravissimo, the rest are from Vinted) and lots of M&S minimiser bras for day to day. Comfy and reliable.

WasherWoman25 · 23/06/2025 17:29

Thanks ladies!

I am wearing them for 2-3 days so sounds similar to most. Someone borked at me wearing them more than a day, so thought I’d put it to the MN panel.

I used to hand wash my Bravissimo ones to prolong their life at £45-£55. Was a 42HH

Im losing weight now so just bought a couple at the M&S outlet to keep costs down and have been throwing them in washing machine as don’t have time to hand wash as often as I’d like. Now around a 38H.

Interested in the Ann Summers bra’s, always assumed they were for looks rather than function!
