They’ve gone downhill IMO. Stayed in the one in Bodmin on the way to and from Cornwall. The first room we had the curtains were full of holes which we only noticed on waking up, on the way back, different room, one curtain was hanging almost half off the rail so couldn’t be closed. Nothing to drink water out of except the glass tea mugs. We stayed in one in Bromsgrove a few months back and the lift was out of order the whole time. I had a medium size suitcase and we were on the second floor. And they no longer do cooked breakfast buffet, you have to order it which I don’t like as I prefer to choose my own. And the continental breakkfast selection was very poor.

If I'm spending £75+ per night I'd expect a good one but if I find a £40 bargain I don't mind so much. The one in Tamworth does a lovely breakfast buffet and you can help yourself to asuch as you like but as I have a severe mushroom allergy they take my order and plate it up in the kitchen for me because some guests will keep using the same tongs for several items instead of sticking to the one item one set of tongs rule.

My late partner and I stayed in loads between 2017 and 2020 when we were doing lots of cycling sportives around the country. They were awesome in those days and the breakfasts top notch all for a bargain price of around £60. Then Covid happened and we noticed the quality went way downhill but the prices went up and up and stayed there without the matching quality.

Like a PP I've used a Holiday Inn Express instead and found it much better value for money.

IME they vary more than you would imagine. The newer ones are fantastic. I've stayed in several and they are really clean, modern and comfortable with all the functionality you would expect. The older ones can be really run down and tired. Definitely not a consistent offering.

The ones I've used most are Bearsden and Milngavie when visiting family. They're ok. The staff are very friendly, particularly in Milngavie.

I never have breakfast. The Bearsden one has Mcdonalds next door and the Milngavie one is opposite Waitrose so I just go and get my free coffee and some pastries and bring them back.

I've also stayed in the one in Pacific Quay in Glasgow which was good if you have a Premier Plus room. There is also a Costa as well as the restaurant. The WiFi there is a bit dodgy though. According to the receptionist if there is a gig on in the Hydro then WiFi is non existent. Not quite sure why.
