AIBU to think I’m underusing ChatGPT?

Posting here for traffic really. I use ChatGPT now and then, emails, basic questions, travel itineraries.., but I feel like I’m barely scratching the surface.

Last week I was out to dinner with friends, and when the bill came (shared food, drinks, one friend had 2 extra cocktails), I uploaded a picture of it and asked ChatGPT to work out what everyone should pay, including tax and a 20% tip. It did it instantly and spared us the awkward back and forth!

So now I’m wondering… AIBU to think I’m underusing it? What are the smartest, weirdest, or most creative ways you use it in daily life or work?

Give me your hacks, I want to steal them!!

You could’ve worked the bill out yourself relatively quickly with your phone calculator and a few minutes. I’m genuinely not meaning to be a dick, I just think it’s really important to keep your mind active as we age and these little tasks are good ways of doing that.

Totally fair, but my friend was trying to work it out and still got stuck. I just thought, why not test the tech? Snapped a pic, got the answer in seconds. People said the same thing about calculators once too.

Chatgpt is going to make us all stupider. They're already conducting studies on how it's causing a cognitive decline.

I only heard of it 2 weeks ago, tried it once at a friend's suggestion and then forgot all about it again. I dont see the appeal.

Here's a hack - ask ChatGPT for a list of hacks

There is a huge environmental impact of using AI and/ chatgpt (and a bigger one using it for generating images). I believe it has its place and we should understand how and when to use it effectively - and that includes know when to use Google vs chatgpt vs our brains!

I tried it once in a training session at work. I asked it to tell me which was the best book by one of my favourite authors. It listed several books that weren’t by that author at all, and where it did list correct books it gave plot details that weren’t correct. I therefore don’t trust it and haven’t used it since!

The weird pro Chaput propaganda os starting early this morning

How could it take seconds to work out the bill surely it would take much longer than that to type in all the info on who ate what

Well I have been "playing" with various AI offerings for the past 3 years. I started using it for things like work-based outlines and plans. Not too bad, although there is a tendency for it to give you all it knows on a subject, so you do need to be very critical, when reviewing output. In addition, you also need to have the experience to judge the veracity of the output.
However, where any AI currently fails, in my opinion, is when you ask it something very specific, such as restaurant suggestions for Sunday lunch, which I did recently.
The response was inaccurate - several restaurants were not open at lunchtime on Sundays - and incorrect - several suggestions either did not exist or had been closed for some years, in some cases the addresses were totally wrong as well! When challenged AI backed down and apologised!
Whilst this was mildly irritating it was not too much of an issue as I was asking very specifically about somewhere that I know very well.
However, had I been a stranger to the city seeking useful information, I would have been extremely misled.
What was interesting in the example above, was that AI showed me where it was getting its information, which was from US-based sources whereas I am in Europe with local sources also available online.
My current thinking is that it is fine as a "support" tool, if you have sufficient knowledge to validate the results.
Another example was, when I asked AI to tailor my CV to a job description. It completely omitted 1 vital requirement mentioned in the description, which has been on my CV since 2006!!!
