I had a miscarriage last week. The day the bleeding stopped I had the worst gallbladder attack of my life. It’s been going on since Wednesday night and now my urine looks like Liptons.

The pains moved to more of a dull ache but Im so anxious. Last time I had these symptoms they suspected something was stuck in my bile duct as my bloods were haywire.

Anyone had any experience of this?

No experience, but holding your hand! Hope you get better soon, OP.

I went through a blocked bile duct twice last year. I had to have it removed by an endoscopy. It’s flipping horrid.

Did they keep you in?

I hope at the very least they give decent pain relief and fast Flowers

Mumofsoontobe3 · 22/06/2025 19:20

So sorry for your loss OP. My sister has really horrendous gallbladder attacks and has been awaiting removal for over 1 year. It knocks her for six and it's shocking how quick it can come on. Keeping you in my thoughts and I hope the hospital are able to do something x

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 22/06/2025 19:20

I would put money on you having gallstones in your bile duct.
Edited, I'm glad you are going to a&e. You don't want to end up with pancreatitis if you can help it, or if it's heading that way, they can treat it quickly.

needingadvice12 · 22/06/2025 19:22

I think there is a stone in my duct. Can I ask what is the treatment for that?

needingadvice12 · 22/06/2025 19:22

The pain has eased and is better when lying down. I’m able to walk about and move etc so I don’t think it’s pancreatitis.

Yes, but that was because my liver function was all over the place. I had a massive infection going on. I was kept in for a week, on antibiotics then discharged, a week later I had the endoscopy.
However, I was put on the waiting list for a gallbladder removal but another gallstone blocked my bile duct again, my gallbladder ruptured and I had another massive infection. They kept me in for two weeks this time, then I had another endoscopy but it failed as the stone was too large. I eventually had the gallbladder removed along with about 200 stones. My surgeon said it was the worst operation he had done and almost walked out… hope he was only messing. I then had another endoscopy to remove the last stone. This occurred from Oct 23 to Feb 25. I’m all good now but bloody hell gallstones are the worst, I really hope you get better treatment than me.

I had cholecystitis once OP and I've never known pain like it. DH ended up ringing an ambulance as I had horrid temperature, was delirious and couldn't even keep water down. And my urine was like IrnBru. Ended up in hospital for 6 days on a drip of several antibiotics but the random thing was that I didn't have any gallstones.. just what they termed as "sludge". I still have to be very careful with eating any dairy fat, and they think my gallbladder is just easily irritated Hmm lucky me. Hope you feel better soon.

Blodyneighbour · 22/06/2025 19:46

I had loads of gallstones removed last year after suffering the same symptoms. I turned yellow, my pee was bright orange and I had severe fever. Was put on antibiotics, then had an ultrasound , then an mri, then and op to remove stones. Supposed to have gallbladder removed too.

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 22/06/2025 19:46

My bile duct was full of stones so they did a ERCP under sedation. It's a camera and wee basket etc that goes down through your mouth into the digestive system and to the bile duct, they fish out the stones and unblock it. My liver function was seriously impaired before (I was the colour of Marge Simpson!!!), bloods back to normal within an hour of having the stones removed.
I went in with the liver failure imminent and they kept me in until I'd had the gall bladder out too. I think I was in for about a month.

needingadvice12 · 22/06/2025 19:50

I’m absolutely petrified of having to stay in. I’m walking about and doing normal activity.

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 22/06/2025 19:56

So was I. The liver failure thing was picked up on bloods and I went straight from work to a hospital bed (doctors had phoned my work). If they need to keep you, it's the best thing.
And I'm sorry about your miscarriage last week. That's rough.

Ireolu · 22/06/2025 19:57

Sounds like cholangitis. If you are told to stay in its best that you do so that you get the appropriate treatment.

needingadvice12 · 22/06/2025 19:59

If it was anything like that would the pain have eased? Or got worse?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 22/06/2025 20:10

Please don't worry about staying in
Stay and get sorted.
You may well be anaemic after your miscarriage.
