MLM...this is one, right?

Just a bit of a rant!

I have five or six people that I know who are now travel agents- working for themselves. Most of these are ex colleagues/old school friends etc. No close friends or family.

I travel quite a bit (not loads, but enough that I stay in hotels a couple of times a year plus go on one or two holidays a year, both abroad and UK).
I have these people contacting me on social media. All of them want to know who I booked with and how much I paid.
Did i know I'm just paying commission to websites? (I'm not...work often pay!).

Ugh, no I don't want to tell you all my details so you can book it for me. And no, I don't want to join your team! Work and home are busy enough, I absolutely don't have time or energy for a side business!

This is just another MLM, right?

I've had to move a fair amount, so I've always loved social media for letting me easily keep in contact with friends in other areas. I'm defriending more people purely because I don't want to join their business or get constant messages "just wanting a catch up" but quickly asking if I have holidays planned!

IABU-These people are legit travel agents just trying to help you save money/start a business
IANBU-The above might be true but yes, it's really annoying

Also, has anyone actually booked through one before (without joining the business themselves??)

I’m not 100% sure but I got the impression it was more like sales than MLM. Agreed that there does seem to be quite a few people that are “at home travel agents” these days - personally I thought travel agents died out yewrs ago once everyone started booking themselves online!
