Wondering what your teens plans are for the summer?

I know they need a reset and chill out for a bit but I think is important to get them to do things and not just hiding in their bedrooms and glued on the phones...so what's your plan for them and any ideas and suggestions are very welcome! Thanks 🙌

Leave them to it. If theyre going to sixth form/ college and not long finished their exams, they deserve a break even if it’s sitting on their phones. You don’t need to supervise and plan activities for them.

This has to be self motivated I think. Mine wants to get a part time job, take up a new hobby, start a fitness plan. She's got a holiday with us, trips to see her long distance bf and off to Europe with his family. She wants to chill but not waste the time.

Eldest is going on holiday with friends for a few days, then going away solo(ish) to learn the basics of a skill she might be interested in studying at university after 6th form. Kill or cure on that one really.

My mum taught her jewellery making and got her a kit last year, so she's made a few bits to wear. She's also gone to help at her old primary school too.

Basically I'm letting her get on with it and organise her own life. The exams were horribly stressful, so the change of pace and rest is needed and well deserved.

She's not 16 until the end of the summer, so (part time) job hunting will be for after that when she starts 6th form.

Any days she is sat at home, I expect her to help out with chores or make dinner, that sort of thing which is probably why she's made her life busy!

i don’t have teens but I loved my last summer as a child I guess in between GCSEs and a levels I read loads, went out with my friends and just enjoyed life I look back on it so fondly, my parents didn’t put any pressure on me and we have a great relationship I plan to leave my teens to it when their time comes.

Ds went to Blackpool for a few days with mates and Reading festival. He also worked for a major retailer all summer...managed to get about 25 hours a week.

Mine both worked a lot and went to loads of gigs.

My ds volunteered on a Mencap summer playscheme. It was only two or three days a week but gave him something to do, and good for his cv. He had a great time and has been back every holiday during college.

Mine did his last year, he went away for a week with friends the week after they finished exams and had prom, then I had at least one day a week off work with him and we went out to the Peak District for walks or to theme parks and he spent a lot of time with friends as well or just chilling In his room or in the garden. Then when the normal holidays started for my younger one we had a family holiday and a couple of long camping weekends and days out.

it went really quickly! A levels are pretty brutal so he needed that long summer to do what he wanted! He’s devastated he only gets 5 weeks this year but I m looking forward to next summer as we have GCSEs and A levels in the same year and a lovely long summer for all of us!

Apart from family holidays I didn’t have any plans for mine. From 16 they really should be managing their own time. Mine had holidays or trips with friends, and just generally hung out socialising, eating and enjoying their long summer. We still did a couple of things like a day out or shopping trip, but otherwise I left them to it.

I never had this as I went straight to work after GCSEs so that’s why I wanted my teens to enjoy this time, you don’t get it back! The next time I had any length of free time was maternity leave!!

Sorry the typos, meant to say GCSE's of course.

Thanks for the replies!
