that my child was "burned to death" at school

My son is in year 7 at a secondary school. He came home all upset this evening as apprently they had their half termly fire drill.
Part of this is to hide various staff and children around the school to encourage vigilance.
My son was delighted to be selected. Apart from the fact that no on found him till the lesson after the drill when someone heard him scratching at the cupboard door.

Apparently all five other hiders had been accounted for.
Is this nromal? What shall my next step be?

ROFL? at an upset child? How odd.

angrymum1 · 23/05/2008 19:37

Oh no the door was shut. But I think he feared he would ruin the drill by coming out. I said this at 17 37.

I have done this where I used to work (I was in H&S) & was the 'hidden' person but I was an adult & 'in' on it so to speak. To use children like this seems very bizarre (I now work in a secondary school) - would love to know who's bright idea it was - very bad IMO

pointydog · 23/05/2008 19:37

Who are you, angrymum? You're takingg the mick

onebatmother · 23/05/2008 19:38

oh.. sorry. this is a wind-up, right?

MrsCarrot · 23/05/2008 19:39

I'm sorry, but the OP combined with the title is making me laugh and it hurts my stitches.

I'm sorry your son was upset, and I would want to know what they were going to do about it but it is quite funny despite its serious message.

angrymum1 · 23/05/2008 19:39

Very odd.

Was just going to post - if they do a rool call & find some one missing then its up to the Fire brigade to do a search. Staff should not return to a building.
When I did it we were testing the roll call procedure + the fire brigade response.
The fire brigade do not normally turn up to standard school drills

despite the fact that the point of a school fire drill is evacuation and not hide 7 seek

findtheriver · 23/05/2008 19:42

Is he a PITA?? Maybe they deliberately didn't find him. (Mentally compiling list of students to lock in cupboard during next fire drill........)

WanderingTrolley · 23/05/2008 19:43

This is quite horrific.

That is a dreadful way to treat your poor boy. Is he very unpopular with the staff and his peers? Do you think it was deliberate? I mean, even if he isn't well liked it's no reason to incinerate him.

I think OF stands for On Fire.

I think you need an appointment with the head. It's a bit fishy, isn't it? Poor poor boy must have been terrified. I think words need to be had with the useless fecking teachers.

guitar · 23/05/2008 19:43

lol river

WanderingTrolley · 23/05/2008 19:45

Oh x posts findtheriver.

Intersting we both think alike. Great minds and all that. Teachers can be cruel

angrymum1 · 23/05/2008 19:45

I did hope he was slected because of his robustness tbh. Maybe not.

God, maybe it was because he was unlikely to nick anything out of the cupboard.

angrymum1 · 23/05/2008 19:48
