Renovations going too far

I live next door to a house that has been empty since last year (rental property) but is being renovated. There has been hammering and drilling virtually everyday, including weekends and bank holidays, for about nine months. House is only a standard semi and renovations do not include any extension. Occasionally they have apologized for the noise but have made no effort to moderate even though I work from home.

Today I arrived home to find a hole in the roof above both properties - they had removed some of our tiles, enough to create a hole in the corner of our roof. DH was home but no one had been round to seek permission. DH went and spoke to workman who said that they have a leak. We definitely do not (or didn't). Workman is same person who has been doing all the work so not sure of their level of expertise. Roof has now been put back. We have taken photos. How do we proceed? Thinking we need to be AIBU in their eyes.

It's reasonable to politely ask about a timeframe for an expected end date. 9 months is a long time to have endured all that noise. Also make sure any further interference with your property is run by you first.

That sounds awful and they absolutely shouldn't be causing any damage to your property, even if they repair it. Any work on a shared wall, where your property is attached to theirs, they will need to pay for you to have your own party wall surveyor. I would want more information and if I had concerns get some legal advice.
