Rude grandma comments

Last week we were at the park after school, with my mum and 2 children, and I overheard one of the other kids there (age about 8/9) saying something like “do you think that grandma over there will like my driving? I ate my grandma for breakfast”. Cue laughter. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything. My mum is a bit deaf, fortunately she didn’t hear.

Then earlier this week my mum took my children to McDonald’s when I was at work and she told me that she overheard some teenagers laughing at her and saying “do you want to go home with grandma like those kids”, again to lots of laughter.

Wtf is this, is this just unlucky this last couple of weeks?! I’ve never heard anything rude being said about my mum’s age before, although it obviously happens. Are they making fun of my mum looking after children or what? Do they say this about granddads??

Erm...personally couldn't get worked up about any of those comments. Bit odd yes but not rude or anything to be "so shocked" about

That’s weird. Both my parents, and my MIL, have done lots of childcare over the years and I don’t believe anyone’s ever said anything negative. Does your mum look quite young? I’m wondering if they think she’s actually the kids mother and are insulting her by saying she looks old enough to be a grandma.

it's like the 'your mum' comments in the 90s - infantile nonsense 😂

"I ate my Grandma" is from something Tomatoa says in Moana in the Shiny song. I think they may have just been saying that loads. I think it's just coincidence even though it feels mean to hear

Oh dear god, you're easily shocked & wound up.

FFS kids say daft things, it wasn't offensive.

your mum is a Grandna so what's the issue with being called one? Kids think anyone over 15 is 'old'

Lol I remember when was brother was about 14. He loudly declared that anyone over the age of 25 was really old and should never go out socially in the evening. I reminded him of that as he was headed out to celebrate his 25 th birthday lol

Sound general silliness from kids tbh. Doesn't actually seem like they were saying anything insulting about her anyway
