To eat DP’s treats?

Lighthearted!

Dp has a slightly annoying habit of buying treats (ice cream, chocolate milk etc) and then never bloody eating them! He very rarely eats sweet things and normally only buys treaty things if they are on offer. Occasionally he’ll get given things eg, some chocolate bars from his parents from last Easter. He’s had stuff that’s actually gone out of date because he wants to have it for a ‘special occasion’ but then either forgets he has it or refuses to eat it when I suggest it because it’s not a special occasion. Obviously if it was a really special treat for a present, or if it was something he bought for a specific occasion I wouldn’t touch!

Today I really fancied some chocolate and the only stuff we had in the house was DP’s last year’s chocolate bars. Wibu to eat some since he’s probably forgotten it’s there and won’t eat it?

While visiting a family member who lives abroad DH discovered on our last day a load of good quality chocolates think Godiva brand. My relativive had received these from clients. Some were out of date or nearly out of date and Dh being a bit of a chocoholic was a bit disappointed that we were leaving shortly.

My ex was like this. He would buy himself treats and then only have half. It would then sit in the cupboards for months till i threw it out.

But nobody, neither me nor the kids were allowed to eat it. Even if it had been in the cupboard for 6 months and he forgot about it we were not allowed to touch.

90% of the time i never told him i threw it out and he never noticed. The times i did tell him i threw away his old and stale crisps he wasnt bothered. But woe betide anybody who ate it.

All hell breaks loose on mumsnet when a partner or son eats chocolate belonging to a poster. It’s selfish, rude, entitled and greedy when it’s done by a man.

If he wants to save his chocolate for a special occasion that’s his choice, get your own if you have already eating yours.

This is correct but tbh either way round I think it’s ok if you then tell your partner “I’ve eaten your snacks but I’ll replace them when we next shop”.

He knows what he’s doing. He buys it or stores presents knowing full well your sweet tooth will drive you mad wanting to eat it and then when you do, he can either be argumentative or slyly put you down indicating that you’re a glutton.

There should be a monthly prize for the most outrageous leap by a poster. This one would probably win it

I understand separate finance, but I think it's beyond weird to have separate-snacks or separate food 😂

I think if he’s just not eating them and they’re sitting there then yes I would. However, I’d probably also replace it. I have a “treat” box for me. I calorie count so everything I buy is within my limits and it’s there if I fancy it. What pisses me right off is going in there and my gannet son has raided it. I’d rather he just asked me. Also, I get plenty in for him each week so he doesn’t have to eat my under 100 cals stuff. So I’m a bit on the fence with this one!

What’s all this about chocolate ‘going out of date’. It may develop a bloom but it really doesn’t go off. It’s perfectly safe to eat it no matter how old it is.

Not if she has left it in a cupboard for a year!!

Quite. It’ll be way past its ’use by’ date.

The partners who are the subject of threads have usually helped themselves in the few days immediately after Easter.

OP: I’d probably rebuy the chocolate etc and eat the older stuff, and attempt some form of stock rotation. Otherwise it’s going to run the risk of being wasted.
