I was banned from mumsnet 2 years ago

But I keep getting charged for mumsnet premium?

last year they charged me (despite banning my account) and I emailed them, they said sorry and refunded the charge. Now again, they’ve charged me despite my premium account being banned.

AIBU to think mumsnet is a money grabbing shitshow

I must admit the thought did cross my mind, what happens if you get banned after paying for a year as you will lose that connection to the account, the same could happen though if you paid monthly.

StiffAsAVicar · 19/06/2025 20:11

I don’t know the reason I was banned. Perhaps they thought my post was getting too far fetched but it was all genuine 🤷‍♀️ even several newspapers picked up the story and published it. I was banned but the posts stayed. Fine, but I wish they’d stop charging me for the premium account they banned 2 years ago.

Quick link us to the post before they ban you again!

YesButNoButMayybee · 19/06/2025 20:41

That's pretty poor.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2025 20:49

Your bank can cancel a recurring card payment as my bank sorted this out for me with an old Xbox 360 game subscription.
You have to be transferred over to the payments dept (when phoning) & they block the payments so the company can't take more money out in future.

As a pp says it's different to cancelling a direct debit so that's why you have to be transferred to the people who sort the recurring card payments & other payment disputes.

Edited: to add last paragraph

Funnywonder · 19/06/2025 20:54

Yeah, recurring charge, blah, card payment, blah, bank doesn’t have a scooby, blah blah blah. Get to the interesting bit about what thread it was🤣🤣

PS I hope you do get your money back!

Catladywithoutacat · 19/06/2025 20:58

Had no idea you could be premium what benefits from being a normal user? And just reclaim from your bank

LilyMumsnet · 19/06/2025 20:58

Hi OP

If your account is banned you should not be charged for Premium. It sounds like something has gone wrong here, and we’re keen to investigate and rectify.

Please email us with details of your account and we will look into this.

I’m scared to get banned again but it was about me posting crabsticks through my neighbours air vents

OP posts:

I remember that one! Can’t recall how it ended, but it made for very entertaining reading.

Oh no! I’m really sorry to hear that. Apologies for saying it was entertaining. It was clearly a very stressful and expensive time for you.

Agapornis · 19/06/2025 22:42

Remind me, did crabstick cat come out okay? Focus on the important parts!

JohnofWessex · 19/06/2025 22:51

A while ago now my account disappeared

I didnt bother much until there was a thread I wanted to post on

I then emailed support who said I was banned for advertising

I replied Que and they sent a copy of my post stating that my new book

'Parenting with Cable Ties and Gaffer Tape' was coming out shortly

To be fair they realised the mistake ..........

can’t see why you’d get banned for the posts though?? Odd.
Did you move in the end?
how are the neighbours now?
and your poor cat?

There have been many users banned over the years for spurious reasons. I know that people seem to think that if you’re banned you must have been a troll/offensive etc but that’s really not true. If your face doesn’t fit then you can get banned.

As for charging for premium, if an account is deleted then the premium should be deleted as standard. There are no excuses for them charging for an account which no longer exists.

Although I’m really surprised that people even pay for premium. It’s a total con. And the way they went about advertising it during the pandemic while people were losing their jobs and MN’s salary bill is approx £250000 a month while they pleaded poverty was a disgrace.

Yeah, I remember the mum two years ago (might even be OP) who got banned. She had her power shut off and no one would help her (MP, Ofgem, etc) because they thought she owed them money when she didn’t. I can’t remember the details but the post got a lot of traction and someone from another energy company was reaching out to help her then she stopped replying. Someone then posted on the thread to say she’d popped up on Reddit saying that she’d been banned from mumsnet with no explanation and I think it seemed like her energy provider were behind it.

edit - looks like this wasn’t op and was someone else

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2025 23:58

@StiffAsAVicar ooooh I remember that thread & the encouragement you got (just read, giggled & sympathised with you myself but I didn't post - well I think & hope I didn't)

We should have all sent you a quid each towards the costs of damages that you ended up paying as it was MNetters egging you on, though there were a few MNetters although sympathetic trying to stop you.

MsDDxx · 20/06/2025 00:25

StiffAsAVicar · 19/06/2025 20:18

Yes they are. I gave my card details when I signed up for premium. But they banned me but still take the payments. They are taking payments for an account that doesn’t exist. It’s been two years. Last time I emailed them and they refunded it. But now i’ve been charged again a year later. Justine must need a new gucci handbag I guess 🤷‍♀️

Sounds like a recurring card payment.

Cancel your card and get new one.

Failing that (and what I did when I couldn’t stop one of these!) close your account and open a new one 😂

I can’t believe they banned you! I remember those posts, and to be honest if it was my xxx, I would probably do just as you did - actually I broke my neighbour’s fence panel for the same reason because they wouldn’t answer the fucking door (probably a Mnetter).

EmeraldShamrock000 · 20/06/2025 02:23

They'll ban you again as a PBP.

Newspapers reprinting a thread from MN doesn’t mean the thread was genuine. Just clickbait for lazy journalists.

Obviously, MN shouldn’t charge you if you’ve been banned, though.

Were you the morbidly obese escort?

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 20/06/2025 05:04

They should have deleted the thread. It wasn’t remotely believable.

if they’re going to ban the poster then I can only assume they kept the thread for entertainment purposes.

as for the payment, the bank can cancel recurring card payments. I work for a different one and it’s actually possible with them to do it yourself, but check with hsbc.
