My PT is annoyed I haven't given notice...

But, I pay in blocks. I've come to the end of a block and I'm just not renewing until Sept. (Or ever now).

I can't see how I have to give notice? I don't have a contract?

Thinking he's not for me, he pulls me up on cancelling short notice when my children are ill despite the fact I've already paid for the session. I think he expects to be able to fill the slot and get double bubble.

What a shame, we get on fine etc but this all leaves a very bad taste.

Have you got a contract with him?

TheFlis · 18/06/2025 10:27

You haven’t done anything wrong. You’re not going to use him again so I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

No. As I said in my OP.

I pay in blocks

I have a huge tendency to ruminate

No you’ve not done anything wrong and you pay him if you miss sessions….

ChateauMargaux · 18/06/2025 10:33

I give you permission to walk away!!

People are funny about money... in both directions... sometimes it is just easier to find a relationship with less angst..

filionj · 18/06/2025 10:33

I'm not sure what I should reply. Maybe just reply nothing

Thank you!

It's a shame he's being so weird.

Sounds like his problem, if you go get another PT get one with kids who understands.

justkeepswimingswiming · 18/06/2025 10:35

Id just reply nothing and not use him again. You dont need to give notice when you pay in blocks, his own fault for doing it that way!

^ this. Maybe try a woman PT.

Gowlett · 18/06/2025 10:35

I think he could expect clients not to be available during the summer. Especially parents. Quite strange behaviour from him!

UrbanFan · 18/06/2025 10:36

You've used up your blocks now you can walk away. Just as he could.

Exactly.

It's like he's just presumed that I'd continue and is now cross that I'm not.

His fiancée is a school teacher so he is aware of the looming holidays!

Do you see him at the gym? I had a PT for 2 years and it took me 6 months to decide to “break up” with her. She was great, I just felt I had gained enough knowledge and I wasn’t getting anything from the sessions I couldn’t do alone now. I was so worried about it being awkward at the gym but it’s been totally fine. I have the odd session with, out of loyalty tbh.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/06/2025 10:38

Is he thinking that you expect to have the sessions at a later date? If that’s not the case then it’s weird.

I second the idea of getting a woman PT next time. One with some life experience as well as great gym credentials

annonymousse · 18/06/2025 10:39

He's probably relying on the income but if there's no contract it's his problem. You've done nothing wrong. He's been a bit silly not having contracts for his clients

throwawaynametoday · 18/06/2025 10:40

Playing devil's advocate, if he has been a great PT it would be good form to give him a heads up, so that he can arrange for another client in your slot. But it is really poor professional judgement on his part to make a fuss about something that HIS T&Cs mean you are fully entitled to do.

TeenLifeMum · 18/06/2025 10:42

I guess with DD’s dance, we pay in blocks but it’s made clear you are expected to give a term’s notice. There’s no contract as such but it’s on the ts and cs.

However, that is on him to make it clear from his side and set the arrangement. I assume if you cancel due to dc being ill you still pay?

Relationship has broken down so I’d end it and find a new pt.

I'm not sure what I should reply. Maybe just reply nothing

I'd just reply something like

' You choose to operate by booking blocks of training. The agreement ends when the block ends. If you want people to 'give you notice' you need to have contracts instead. It's a shame you have soured our relationship as I now won't be booking with you in September as I had intended to'

nomas · 18/06/2025 10:44

He should have asked you weeks ago about your plans to renew.

filionj · 18/06/2025 10:47

It's honestly given me an out. I've been with him about a year, I don't need him as such. I also moved gyms to a gym he prefers but I don't actually like it much there.

So, I won't be renewing, and I've cancelled my membership at that gym and I'm going back to training alone (with music!) at my fave gym!

I'd reply asking him to point you to the section of your contract where it deals with this issue 😉
