Have you been having higher bills and just not paid them? What have the company said? Can they put you onto some kind of payment plan to clear the debt?

You can apply to have some energy debt written off & then a payment plan for the remaining amount.

Sounds like they put you on £39 a month as that is all you could afford while billing you for your actual usage - which is now at £2,000.

you either need to call them to rearrange your payment plan; ask them for their hardship payment scheme (most have them) and also look to see what kind of tariff you are on and see if you can switch / fix - but while you have debt you’ll need to stay with the same company.

Most energy suppliers have a Trust Fund which you can apply to once to pay off the debt. So if you haven’t applied before it’s worth googling the name if your energy supplier and trust fund and applying.

You need to speak with them again.

Make sure that the bill you have is correct and then explain you cant afford £259 a month and ask to come to some sort of lower payment that covers your usage more and covers some debt...they may also help put with the debt but do not bury your head in the sand ..keep communicating with them

I'm amazed they allowed you to only pay £39 for so long and didn't try and put you on a prepayment meter

Have you made sure they have the correct metre readings? Ensure that the figure your all working from is correct.

talk to the company about funds they will have to help those in debt or contact one of the charities which helps with it.

But then moving forward you need to look at a way to pay for the energy that your using otherwise your just going to end in the same position again.
