So we are buying a new house, it’s gorgeous. I love it. It’s a new build and will be home for the absolute foreseeable.
I am absolutely bowled over by how much it’s costing to get the house in a live in condition!
nearly 30k for appliances including fitting ( cooker, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, microwave oven, quooker tap), tiles and fitting in all downstairs apart from sitting room, tiles and fitting in main bathroom and two en-suites, bathroom sink units, wood floors and fitting in 5 beds and sitting room and painting.

We haven’t even looked at carpet for the stairs yet and I need to get the dc bedroom furniture!! This is insane.

Moan is the wrong word I suppose but oh my god…haemorrhaging money is an understatement 😭

Just think how lovely it will look when you are all moved in though.

We've just bought a new to us (but old) house and have a budget of 5k for floors/painting/appliances/minor electrics.

Looks like we'll be getting good at DIY! Obviously we'll get the professionals in for anything with gas/electricity but we'll have to do nearly everything else ourselves.

That’s what’s keeping me going to be honest yes 🥹 I’m beyond excited to finally have my own home.

Did you negotiate for any of it to be included? You can usually at least get flooring! I'd wait to paint until the snagging list is completed. Fully tiling the bathrooms will be adding a chunk too. Also, wouldn't bother with the quooker, I'm told they always break down.

Do your washing in the evenings? Or on the morning before you go out to work and hang it on an airer. It’s ecologically negligent to use a dryer in the summer when the sun is free in both terms of money and fossil fuels. I dry all my washing on a clothes horse on the deck.

No-one needs a quooker for a house to be livable. We considered it but decided it wasn’t worth the cost

The rest of it sounds quite reasonal. You haven’t got to have high end appliances.

To be fair, it's too humid where we live to dry clothes easily and our tumble dryer costs very very little to run.

I sometimes do it when I wfh. And I always hang them out when sunny. Unfortunately it’s not always the case.

I know a few people with quooker and they love them

Negotiating was not an option unfortunately.

That's a shame, you can often get quite a lot included. You'll end up with a home you hopefully love though so it should all be worth it.

Five bedrooms. Two en-suites, Qooker tap…are you looking for sympathy.

No not looking for sympathy at all…we are all allowed to be shocked at prices!!

1.5k on flooring for a 5 bed would be impossible . 1k on appliances maybe but they need to be integrated

she left out ‘in 1982’

I think so yes! You would barely get two rooms flooring fitted for that price now!!!

My kitchen alone was £4500 on just labour for the tiling, and I had to buy the tiles on top.

I’m finding that labour is the price of the materials and then some! And so it should be, a good tiler/carpenter are hard to come by. It’s their job they are not going to do it for free are they?! 😅

This is it, the cost of trades has increased hugely.

Yes and I wouldn’t dare dispute it for a second at all they entirely deserve fair pay for the job they do, it’s not easy and they train and work hard!
